ALT Westmoreland held Lancaster to under 100 yards of offense and kept the Red Devils out of the end zone to spoil the homecoming celebration at LHS on Saturday, October 24. The Eagles won, 33-2. Lancaster is now 1-2 against Northern Neck District teams and will host Rappahannock tomorrow, October 30. The Devils end regular season play on the road at Essex on November 30. ALT Lancaster capped a 19-4 regular season campaign with a clean sweep of Essex on Thursday, October 22, to finish in second place in the Northern Neck District and earn a home seed in both the district and Region 1A volleyball tournaments. Lancaster will meet Northumberland on October 29 at 6pm at the Indians' gym, for the Northern Neck District tournament championship. ALT --𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞-- A curious community filled the lobby of Lancaster High School on Wednesday, October 21, to see the design for a new bridge that will become part of the Northern Neck landscape for decades. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) held a design public hearing seeking feedback on the proposed design for the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge replacement project currently scheduled to start construction in 2028. ALT Runners and walkers can now sign up at runsignup.com for the 26th annual Irvington Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day, November 26. Search Irvingtonva Turkey Trot. The early sign-up fee for the 2-mile or 5-mile race is discounted at $30 or $35 for both races, said race director Michelle Lybarger. The price increases on November 1 to $35 for the 2-or 5-mile races and $40 for both. The Irvington Village Improvement Association (VIA) sponsors this event and will donate a portion of race proceeds to animal welfare organizations in Lancaster County.

ALT LANCASTER—As Election Day, November 3, nears, so does the preparation for the critical work—an accurate counting of ballots once the polls close at 7 p.m. The count starts with the ballot scanning machines. ALT Michael and Christine Downing of Northumberland County were presented the 2026 Helen and Tayloe Murphy Conservation Champion Award at the Northern Neck Land Conservancy (NNLC) Boots and Barbecue event in early October. The award recognizes people in the community who have made a significant contribution to protecting natural resources and rural heritage of the region. ALT With early voting underway for the November 3 election, the Rappahannock Record recently asked candidates in contested local races to comment on a few issues. In Northumberland, a special election will be held for school board in District 5, to fill an unexpired term ending December 31, 2027. ALT U.S. Senate candidate Bert Mizusawa will visit Kilmarnock on Wednesday, October 28, for a community Meet-the-Candidate and Get-Out-the-Vote town crawl organized by the Lancaster County Republican Committee. The event will begin at 3 p.m. at Small Town Burger and continue along the Main Street sidewalks before concluding at Nacho Average Brewpub, where Mizusawa will take questions from residents.
