Jordan fans have been repeating the same excuse for generations: Jordan couldn’t win a single game against the Celtics because they had four Hall of Famers and an all-time great team.
But the actual games tell a different story. Jordan had opportunities to win and failed to capitalize when it mattered.
The Celtics were great. That doesn’t make Jordan’s own missed opportunities disappear.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 unreal cult
All facts on this tweet. Jordan is already seen as a fucking loser in this era. Just imagine another 10 years later 🤣🤣
Jordan is NOT the GOAT. In all honesty he is barely a top 5 player in the All Time rankings.
The mythology has done more work than the basketball argument.
Jordan never won a a playoff series or championship without Scottie Pippen. His greatest teams were built around Pippen, Phil Jackson’s triangle offense, elite defense, and one of the deepest supporting casts in the league.
Before Pippen became an established star, Jordan’s Bulls repeatedly struggled in the playoffs. After Pippen was gone, and Jordan returned to the Wizards after years of retirement those Wizards teams never came close to championship contention…the never even made the playoffs… in fact they were never even over .500
And the 1990s deserve context. The league was expanding, talent was spreading across more teams, several all time greats were aging or leaving their primes, and Jordan’s Bulls benefited enormously from playing in a league that was not nearly as deep as today’s NBA. A league so devoid of talent they moved the 3pt line to WNBA range for multiple seasons.
The idea that he single handedly carried mediocre teams to six championships is mythology.
The NBA also had enormous financial incentive to make Jordan the face of basketball. He was a global marketing phenomenon for Nike, McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Gatorade and the league itself. Jordan made basketball explode commercially, so the mythology surrounding him became part of the product.
Very good player? Absolutely.
MJ The GOAT? Not even fucking close.
Put his entire career under the microscope, separate the individual from the system, teammates, era, media machine and corporate marketing, and Jordan’s case becomes a lot less bulletproof.
The GOAT debate should be about basketball, not mythology.
larry bird is respected and appreciated worldwide for pretty much destroying jor1-9an's legacy but he's borderline top 5 and definitely better than jordan
he's 10000% right, jordan started to get removed from nba history in 2007 when lebron dragged a bunch of nobodies to the finals (something jordan could never do)
LeBron at 20-years-old:
“When I’m done with the No. 23, they’ll never remember that dude.”
