This is ahistorical, simplistic, and racist. Most countries are multicultural even if there is a somewhat homogeneous national culture. Also, the roots of American culture are not just the Anglo. Many other cultures have been here from the start despite efforts to erase them.

Dr. Nguyen is an exceptional scholar and mentor. While at UIC, she helped build community and support for graduate students. We were sad to see her go but excited about her new opportunity. Learning that Dartmouth is cheating her out of her new position is beyond offensive.

Most white American “conservatives” do not actually believe in limited government as a principle, they just believe in limiting government support for Black and brown people. This is why they also believe in EXPANDING government when it comes to police, prisons and surveillance for this exact reason. Racism is the dominant political ideology, conservatism is just how it’s expressed to appear “race-neutral.”
