"Accurate" animation of the Mt. Horeb Earthworks at Adena Park in Lexington, Kentucky by @SPrachniak . It is based on the reconstruction of the site from the mound encyclopedia. It is a circular, 200-foot-diameter formation with a 15-foot-wide earthen outer wall with a well-formed inner moat or ditch. The outer earthen wall is about 5 feet high. One “Causeway” or pathway leads to the top of the interior central earthen platform mound. The inner ditch is 10 feet deep and 45 feet wide. In the center of the earthwork the circular platform mound is 105 feet in diameter and was used for rituals. No burials were found in the earthworks but a large Adena mound is close by and the complex is thought to be related to the Adena. Excavations in 1939 on the central platform mound revealed 132 postholes of upright log posts on the outer edges of the mound forming a focal center. The posts averaged a 1 foot diameter. Current dating of it ranges from 500 BC to AD 300. The site is essentially intact but the posts are long gone. They were found by the 1939 archaeological excavations. It is a state park run by the Univ. of Kentucky but can only be accessed with permission and appointment. 📷

These 5 artifacts came from ancient America.
The Rattlesnake Disc isn’t just an artifact. It’s a map of how Mississippian people understood existence itself. The “eye-in-hand” wasn’t decoration. It marked the crossing between the living and the dead, the Milky Way as a spirit road, the serpent as guardian of thresholds. They carved the cosmos in stone while Europe still mapped the heavens in fear.
