Getting myself ramped up for a day of #foodstudies at @pcaaca -- It will be my first time presenting with them! (But no stranger to PCA). Excited to meet some new people and share this new work!

The slides from my @ihr_asu presentation on Designing for Care and Embracing Ungrading. Thanks to @AsaoBInoue for the amazing conversation. As ever, the questions from him and the audience pushed me to think about this work in new ways. #DesignForCare

ALT Most of our assessment mechanisms in higher education don’t assess what our institutions say they value most. Glancing at even just a few college mission statements, I see none of the following: We pit students and teachers against one another. We rank students in fiercely competitive ways. We measure output with little concern for the learning process. We demean student work by crudely quantifying it. We start from a place of deep suspicion of students. We assess in ways that reinforce bias against marginalized students.
Thank you @MNSteveSimon for taking the time to talk with us! It only takes a handful of people to raise the attention of our legislators. Come on, rural MN -- let's work towards a budget that supports our entire community #FundOurFutures!

Grateful for a governor who champions working people - not the wealthy or corporations - and is committed to #FundOurFutures and #SharetheWealth by making sure the richest 1% pay their fair share so all Minnesotans can thrive! #mnleg

Our budget is how we care for one another. But instead of pitching in their fair share, the richest among us have used this pandemic to get even richer.
Minnesotans are calling on #mnleg to make sure the people on top #ShareTheWealth, so we can #FundOurFutures.

Essential workers, especially immigrants, have been hit hardest by the pandemic and have received the least relief. We must make a commitment to get these workers vaccinated and provide them with economic assistance.

Yea Pennsylvania! So proud of my hometown of Philly. So relieved. So grateful. So ready for moving forward — together! #Election2020 #Gritty
Phone banking for the first time in my life... This election is too important. #WeMakeMN #FlipMNSenate @minnesota_faith
When I'm in a Zoom meeting with someone and I realize that they are more concerned about checking themselves out than the content of our conversation... And then I realize that I also can't stop looking at my weirdness reflected back at me... Zoom has made us all narcissistic...

Temple lanterns are one of those things learning Japanese ruins for your a bit; they look so beautiful and mysterious when you can't read them. Then you find out they say things like "Tanaka's Shirts and More!"

Hey grad students who took seminars via remote learning this spring, thoughts on what worked or didn't work for you? Things profs should or shouldn't do when teaching grad seminars online? Thanks!

In MN we have gone from three 3D printers to over 100 in under two days. Thank you every one for helping print PPE! Thank you @Blick_Art for providing the clear face shield material we desperately needed! @mrscottbot @AllThingsSTA
An unexpected gift from a bright soul this morning. Thank you! It brightens all the grey around me outside. It is amazing how a small gesture can ignite our hearts 🥰 @ St. Olaf College instagram.com/p/B76akiCnHol/…
So... #norovirus + intensive winter interim = recipe for disaster... I was out, students were out, and neither I nor them can catch up in the whirlwind of deadlines. Stay healthy, my friends!
Onto the work of Soyi Kim who is presenting on Virality, Feminism, and Neocolonial Korea. She is discussing the problems of female trolls/cyber harassment. #Mechademia2019
Kim talks about “media-infected subjectivity” regarding online rape culture and pornography. What is the role of the researcher once you have already been infected? Kim looks to Rubens methodology as a useful framework. #Mechademia2019
This question of how the researcher maintains impartiality vis-a-vis the objectification of women/children on these pornographic sites is a difficult one. Soyi Kim lays out some of the theories that allow us to understand this relationship. #Mechademia2019
Susan Noh is talking about Yuri!!! On Ice and the Politics of Queer Cosmopolitanism. She is now talking about the notion of contact moments, theorized by Katsuhiko Suganuma (originally theorized by Pratt) #Mechademia2019
Noh talks about the ice skating rink as a non-place in Yuri on Ice. How do we balance universalism and localism? #Mechademia2019
Noh describes the current fan conversation around queerbaiting in Yuri on Ice. Is there a such thing as a “global queer reading” of a text? Really fascinating #Mechademia2019
