I have the absolute best job in the world: standing with the operators, engineers, investors, policymakers, and visionaries building Africa’s energy future.
African Energy Week #AEW2026 in Cape Town made one thing clear: Africa is open for business.
With more than 12,000 delegates and over $17 billion in commitments, AEW delivered new licensing opportunities, corporate partnerships, farmout discussions, and major project announcements across oil, gas, power, infrastructure, Data Centers, AI and technology.
The message was clear in Cape Town, Africa does not need fewer energy options. We need more, reliable electricity, natural gas, oil, renewables, transmission, storage, refining, and digital infrastructure.
Energy poverty is not a climate strategy, and deprivation is not development.
Power Africa Today reinforced a simple truth: people need electricity now. Hospitals, schools, farms, manufacturers, small businesses, and homes all depend on affordable and dependable power.
The same is true for Africa’s digital future. Data centers, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, telecommunications, and advanced manufacturing require reliable energy. Countries that can provide it will attract investment, technology, and high-value jobs.
From Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Cameroon, Angola, Namibia, Ghana, Gabon, Uganda, Senegal, and Algeria to projects in Mozambique and Nigeria, governments and companies demonstrated that Africa is ready to move from opportunity to execution.
The work now is straightforward, though not easy:
Turn commitments into projects. Turn projects into production. Turn production into power.
Turn power into jobs and prosperity.
Cape Town was a major eye-opener. It was very difficult for me personally but I know how to turn off the noise and put in the hard work. I am grateful to every delegate, partner, sponsor, investor, policymaker, and member of the African Energy Chamber team who made AEW 2026 a success.
Africa has the resources, talent, and market. Now we need the investment, regulatory certainty, and determination to get the job done.
The future of Africa will not be powered by promises. It will be powered by people, energy, infrastructure, and execution. See you at #AEW2027 October 11–15, 2027.
