🚫 Drug use is dangerous and every overdose has the potential to cause a brain injury.
The Alberta Recovery Model recognizes that a system of care must do more than reverse an overdose. It must help prevent the next one.
🧠 Mental health and mental illness are NOT the same thing. In our June Mental Health and Addiction Brief, we explored why clarity matters.
Mental health changes affects everyone and is based on life events while mental illness affects ~20% of people and refers to diagnosable medical conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depressive disorder.
🔎 This distinction is important because a clearer understanding helps ensure that the right supports are available at the right time to those who need them.
