We live in a bizarre world where a Labour government enacts laws that force universities to host far right racists – but stops young people from advancing legitimate criticisms of a country engaged in genocide. We believe students and teachers must be free to debate, question and criticise the actions of the Israeli government, so we're preparing a legal case against this government's new antisemitism guidance. Support the legal case 👇 goodlaw.social/yzyl

Normality. If you object, you're antisemitic.
Israel's military lockdown of Hebron entered its ninth day, with raids, home demolitions, movement restrictions and more than 3,300 Palestinians displaced. Israeli forces have abducted at least 110 Palestinians, while settler attacks have intensified since the start of the assault. The UN and human rights groups condemned the attack as collective punishment, warning of forced displacement and ethnic cleansing.

How many people is it OK to keep in tents for months and months? Compare the amount of money being spent on arms versus the amount it would cost to house the people here?

When childhood walks on crutches instead of running through gardens, and when a smile blossoms amid the rubble and destruction, this image captures the tragedy of an entire generation in Gaza A generation whose limbs have been stolen by Israeli bombardment, yet whose innocent faces still carry a hope that even the bombs could not take away The flower-like smile of this child is nothing less than a resounding cry against a world drowning in silence, witnessing innocence being shattered and spring withering beneath the ashes A pain that tears hearts apart, and a world whose silence continues to crush innocence

There is something beautiful about this video, yet every time I watch it, I feel my soul weeping. #Gaza

The situation in the West Bank is escalating, with Hebron sealed off and home demolitions planned. With Israelis going to the polls today, now is the time for the UK to keep up the pressure to make a two state solution a reality.

Watch the full video here: youtube.com/watch?v=Cqf5dOvZ… We got a furious response from the former Conservative minister Lord Michael Gove when we asked about his position on Israel at the Labour Conference. Gove claimed he knew more about antisemitism than Zack Polanski, the only Jewish leader of a major political party in the UK. He also accused us of not being journalists and of an obsession with Israel, despite the Labour government's change in position on the occupation of Palestine being the key topic at this year's conference. Gove now sits in the House of Lords and is editor of right-wing magazine The Spectator.

Peter Oborne on the West Bank: "It is a horrific, racist project to drive out Palestinians... 65 of [the Bedouins'] communities have been destroyed in the last three years... The fact that we, the democratic, human rights-respecting West, is tolerating this horror is extraordinary."

At the Royal College of Physicians Dinner I met consultants who dealt with nephrons. I thought of the late great Nora Ephron, one of the greatest ever scriptwriters. I wondered if she ever thought about nephrons. Did she look at her name on the screen and think ‘nephrons!’ ?

Why?
Palestinian boy Muhammad Hussam Shaeen was shot by the israelis yesterday in Al-Maghazi camp in Gaza: he died of his bullet injury today

Forget the euphoria of Britain's change of policy on settlements. Palestinians, totally abandoned by the international community, are being ethnically cleansed in occupied east Jerusalem. I report for Middle East Eye on house demolitions in Al Bustan: middleeasteye.net/opinion/we…

There was a deeper reason why the film NAZA left the entire audience speechless. This film isn’t about the tangible, visible horror of Gaza. It was about something more hidden, something far closer to home. This was about the horror lurking within each of us. What the German-Jewish philosopher Hannah Arendt called “the banality of evil”. We were stunned, I think, by the realisation that the 24 Israelis up on the screen – each of whom admitted, often dispassionately, sometimes a little proudly, carrying out the most monstrous of crimes – could have been our son or daughter, our brother or sister. The only reason to applaud, as happened at the Venice Film Festival, it seemed to me, was to drown out the still, small voice of one’s conscience asking, “Might I have done as they did? Might my children?” NAZA is a gut punch not because it tells us anything we did not already know or suspect about Israel and Gaza. The enclave’s Palestinian journalists showed us daily the evidence of the genocide, before each was picked off by Israel’s AI machinery – in the largest slaughter of media personnel ever recorded. No, the film tells us something far more shaming. It tells us who we are. It tells us exactly what the pillars of our western “civilisation” stand on. Today’s western privileges were built on a long history of naked, racist colonialism – of greed, of pillage, of slavery, of genocide – that we have never truly renounced or forsaken. Israel continues that tradition for us, both in sharpening colonialism’s technical efficiency with endless, murderous experimentation on a captive Palestinian population and in obscuring our own complicity in this barbarity. That is the reason why it was so effortless for our leaders to collude in Israel’s genocide: to supply the bombs, to pass on the intelligence, to provide the diplomatic cover, to excuse the “excesses”, to crush the protests. NAZA silences us not because of the monstrosity of what Israel did but because it serves as irrefutable proof of our own monstrosity. Our societies watched it all and did nothing. We are all guilty. This is an extract from my latest article NAZA is not just about Israel and Gaza. It’s about the evil lurking in us all. Find a link to the rest in the reply post below ⬇️
