Jakky heard the Hamas terrorists invade his village and called his parents to say goodbye. His parents heard gunfire and explosions before the phone disconnected. According to Times of Israel, Mr. Jakkapan "Jakky" Diawthaisong was 37 when he was murdered by Hamas. He was murdered on October 7th, the deadliest day for Jews only comparable to the last days of the Holocaust. Few things compare to the scale of evil. Jakkapan was among the 22 Thai and Nepalese workers who were murdered in the kibbutz that morning when the terrorists attacked their living quarters with grenades and gunfire. One survivor told TOI that before one of the terrorists threw a grenade into their living quarters, he shouted, “Hello, Thailand,” and then in Hebrew, “You like to work so hard, now you will die.” Jakky's final social media post was made on October 7 at 9:12 a.m., hours into the Hamas assault, when he wrote on Facebook: “Invading and shooting into the residence is not normal.” He was never heard from again. Jakkapan’s body was returned to Thailand for burial on November 16. He is survived by his wife, Saichol Noo May, their teenage son, Nam, and his mother, Amon, according to Times of Israel. Jakky was in Israel, but was native to Thailand. His teenage son is now without a father; his wife without a husband.

I know that we are living in historically unprecedented times — but as a convert to Judaism — I am shocked at how normalized antisemitism has become. I went to a women's college. Before that, I started college at 14 by going to my local state college for classes. I was fascinated by psychology, but I soon found our that the entire curricula was steeped in liberal ideology. I became fluent in feminismese. I could point out oppression anywhere. Churn out a 10 page paper on how men are evil and oppressive in my sleep. God, I am so glad I got away from that. But anyways: I remember us standing against religious discrimination because of Islamophobia. Even though most of my school's curricula was bent feminist, race and religion also came up. And I distinctively remember learning about antisemitism. This was 10-15 years ago. I wonder what happened to the feminism and human rights movements. Where are the social justice warriors? Where are the religious tolerance activists? Whatever happened to them? My friends in college are saying that their fancy liberal arts colleges aren't even touching the subjects of antisemitism in diversity classes because the topic has become too politically radioactive. I don't think anyone could have predicted that talking about antisemitism would become a topic non grata in the classrooms that teach our future leaders.
