We must do everything we can to protect our children. Unfortunately, human traffickers are increasingly using AI and online platforms to target and exploit them. That's why I introduced the Countering Online Trafficking Act to require the State Department to assess whether its anti-trafficking office has the technical expertise needed to keep up with these evolving threats.

I joined @CBSLA alongside @andrewfedyk to discuss Dunkin’s Law, legislation inspired by the heartbreaking loss of his beloved dog, Dunkin. This bill would give pet owners a stronger path to seek justice and hold negligent pet care facilities accountable. There are plenty of great people who care for our animals, but we need to get the bad actors out of the system.

When Dunkin's family entrusted him to a boarding and training facility, they expected him to come home safe. Instead, they lost a beloved member of their family. Their heartbreaking story is exactly why I introduced Dunkin's Law, legislation that would give pet owners a path to seek justice when their animals are harmed or neglected by those entrusted with their care. These operations are putting our communities at risk, with growing concerns about foreign-linked criminal networks operating right in our backyard. From Northern California to Southern California, it’s time to protect our pets and hold negligent boarding facilities accountable. After @andrewfedyk and Madeline White tragically lost their beloved dog, Dunkin, at a boarding facility, I knew we needed stronger protections for pets and greater accountability for those entrusted with their care. And sadly, Dunkin’s story isn’t the only heartbreaking case.  In Humboldt County, authorities uncovered the remains of 117 dogs at a Northern California animal rescue facility, with evidence of gunshot wounds.  That’s why I introduced Dunkin’s Law to hold boarding facilities and similar businesses accountable when animals are harmed or killed in their care. These tragedies underscore the need to protect our pets, give families a path to justice, and prevent this kind of mistreatment from happening again. My staff joined @fema and Cal OES leadership alongside the Paradise Irrigation District, @paradise_ca, and Butte County officials to review recovery progress and discuss projects still ahead.
