Incredible day of learning and immersing myself in all things Organized Retail Crime with prosecutors, investigators, LE folks, technology experts and more as we discuss ways to and challenges related to address crime and repeat offenders. Topics included investigation and prosecution barriers and success elements, gift card fraud, cargo theft, victims impacted etc. I remain dogged to combat this in WA.
Honored to support the Holocaust Center for Humanity and hear from survivor George Elbaum among many others. 750 folks came together to learn about the great work to educate youth across WA, how awareness changed as a result of a teachable moment in a local LE agency, and efforts of awareness to ensure evil doesn't repeat. It was an inspiring event!
Updated article on the ferry shut down journey. -#28thLDStrong thenewstribune.com/news/loca…
Such a wonderful late afternoon to get the news that the ferry was running and ready for sail! Even the rainbow showed up with joy! Plenty of after hour assessment for what happened, why and what can be done about it. But for now, grateful to so many including Jeremy and his son as I saw them as the ferry finally sailed for being a Captain Sherpa these last few days along with the other two extraordinary Captain Sherpas in Corey and Brandon. All private citizens helping neighbors. Cheers to the mechanic for handling business quickly once he received the part. #28thLDStrong
Let's get this done in Washington! @GovBobFerguson
BREAKING: We’re getting cell phones OUT of our classrooms here in Pennsylvania.
I just signed a statewide, bipartisan bell-to-bell cell phone ban into law. During the school day, students should be focused on learning, making friends, and building skills critical to their development — not focused on their phones.
I’ve heard parents, teachers, and students loud and clear on this: too much screen time is hurting our kids both at school and at home. So we took action. I’m proud that we got this done.
Good info on the Pierce ferry challenge and how it is impacting my neighbors in the 28. thenewstribune.com/news/loca…
Pierce Co must do a better job of sharing updates on the lack of ferry service moving now on Day 3 for tomorrow. Sparse comms to impacted neighbors is beyond frustrating. It's a failure on their part and not good govt. 1/2
This should have been dissolved some time ago and said as much. I also became alarmed when Pierce formed a group to develop a regional approach and even more so when they allocated $1m for a consultant to move in that direction. seattletimes.com/seattle-new…
Good summary. This measure will dampen homes being built in Tacoma where housing is needed. This is coupled with building fees raised by the TCouncil. Tacoma Needs 2,000 Homes a Year. Measure One Makes That Harder. thecascadian.com/tacoma-need… via @The Cascadian
An incredible labor of love over years to install markers for more than 3200 people buried from Western State Hosp. at Ft Steilacoom Park between 1879 and 1953. These folks were doctors, veterans, teachers and from all walks of life. We placed the last marker there on 10.10. 1/2

AG Nick Brown encourages Washingtonians to safely dispose of unneeded medications this Saturday, Oct. 24, for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
“Leaving around old prescriptions you don’t need can easily lead to someone else misusing them, particularly young people,” Brown said. “Safe disposal through National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a great way to remove that temptation.”

It was great to join rail folks as we discussed ways to increase options for passenger and freight rail in WA. Increasing freight options allows product moved easily from one place to another and added passenger routes boosts access and benefits our environment. #winwin
Passenger rail doesn't stop at state lines.
Thanks to @RepLeavitt (WA), Rep Nancy Nathanson (OR) and Denise Baum (MT) for joining BSPRA's RUN panel on multistate rail collaboration.

It was a wonderful launch of a new affordable housing project in the 28. It's an example of a partnership between philanthropy, city, state and federal folks coming together to get it done. Housing that offers 2 or 3 bedroom units is a big deal. Proud to fight to get $$$ for it.
