NYCEM has placed New York City under a Travel Advisory for this afternoon and evening as the risk for excessive rainfall has increased from Slight to Moderate, Level 3 of 4.   There is an increased risk of flash flooding, and conditions could become dangerous with little warning. The heaviest rain may not hit every neighborhood, but where strong storms develop, streets, low-lying areas, subway entrances, and basement spaces could flood quickly.   Prepare now. Plan for possible travel delays and disruptions. Allow extra time, check weather and transit conditions before leaving, and be prepared to delay or change your plans.   If you live in a basement apartment or other below-grade space, be ready to move to a higher floor or safer location before flooding begins. Never walk, bike, or drive through floodwater.

Huge Congratulations to Inspector Ashraf, proudly representing the Northeast Bronx. As our leader of the 47 Precinct, Inspector Ashraf has shown up time and time again for our residents, leading his team and working closely with our elected officials, community stakeholders and our 47 Precinct Council. We appreciate you Inspector and wish you continued success on behalf of Baychester, Edenwald, Eastchester Heights, Gun Hill, Olinville, Wakefield and Woodlawn. @NYPD47Pct @47PCC @CMKevinCRiley @jamaaltbailey @RepRitchie @RepGLatimer @BronxDAClark Speaker Heastie.
A true leader. Newly promoted Insp. Muhammad Ashraf led the 47th Precinct through a difficult year. After the tragic murder of Det. 1st Grade Didarul Islam, he held his precinct together, honored the memory of one of their own, and continued to protect the people of the Bronx.

On July 30, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law, expanding access to healthcare for millions of Americans.  These programs are lifelines for our communities, and House Democrats are fighting to protect them.

61 years ago, President Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law—providing millions of vulnerable Americans with a pillar of health and economic security.  He did so in Independence, Missouri, alongside President Truman, who championed the initiative during his time in office.   As Republicans gut these vital lifelines to give more tax cuts to the rich, our fight to protect the care that millions of Americans rely on has never been more important.

Everyone deserves clean air and a plan that works for them. If you or someone you care for has a disability or uses medical equipment, smoke emergencies take extra preparation, and NYCEM is here to help you get ready with guidance. Here's what to know. 💙 IF YOU USE ELECTRIC MEDICAL EQUIPMENT: Ventilators, oxygen concentrators, CPAP machines, and powered mobility devices all depend on electricity. Know your backup power options now, whether that's battery backup, a charged power bank, or a plan to relocate. Contact your utility to register as a life-sustaining equipment customer so you're prioritized during outages. IF YOU HAVE A RESPIRATORY OR HEART CONDITION: Smoke affects you sooner and more severely. Stay indoors with windows closed when air quality is poor, run AC on recirculate if available, and keep your medications, inhalers, and oxygen supplies stocked and within reach. Talk to your doctor now about what to do when air quality drops, including when to adjust activity or seek care. CREATE CLEANER AIR AT HOME: Designate one room with as few windows and doors as possible as your clean-air room. A HEPA portable air cleaner helps. Avoid candles, smoking, frying, and vacuuming, which add indoor pollution. BUILD YOUR SUPPORT NETWORK: Identify at least two people who can check on you during an emergency, help you get to cleaner air, or assist with an evacuation. Share your plan, your medication list, and how your equipment works. If you rely on a home health aide or paratransit, ask your providers about their emergency procedures. PACK A GO-KIT THAT FITS YOUR NEEDS: Medications and copies of prescriptions, backup batteries and chargers for medical and mobility equipment, hearing aid batteries, glasses, communication cards or devices, comfort items, and instructions for your care that someone else could follow. STAY INFORMED YOUR WAY: Sign up for @NotifyNYC to get emergency alerts in the format that works for you, including accessible formats. Check air quality before going outside and plan around it. If you have trouble breathing, chest pain, or your equipment fails, call 911.
