ICE brings despair and violence to every city its agents invade. New York will not be safe as long as a single one of these cruel thugs remains in our communities, and we will not have justice until all those who nearly murdered a New Yorker and his child are prosecuted for their sick crime. We demand ICE gets out, and stays out. Immediately.

When America’s adversaries abroad target our elections by spreading disinformation, sowing distrust, and striking at our election-security infrastructure, we expect our president to stand up to their attacks on free and fair elections – not start his own. The Trump Administration’s shameful betrayal of our democracy has long been in the works, and it’s only grown more dangerous in the era of AI. I’ve been sounding the alarm for years. I introduced the REAL Political Ads Act to end the tide of undisclosed AI-generated political ads muddying our elections, and I led the DEEPFAKES Accountability Act to combat malicious deepfakes and foreign election interference. Democracy depends on people staying informed. Trump’s power rests on people being deceived. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

Today marks three painful years past the October 7th terrorist attack on Israel, when Hamas murdered more than 1,200 men, women, and children and abducted 251 others into brutal captivity. My heart and thoughts are with the countless families who have suffered an unthinkable, unbearable grief that came with that terrible day and will stay with them forever. The vile tide of antisemitism and islamophobia that arrived in the October 7th attack’s aftermath has been felt by innocents throughout our world, including far too many of our Jewish and Muslim neighbors across Brooklyn. In the name of all those we have lost, and all others we hope to save, we must continue to stand against hatred in all its forms. The work of building a future where our coexistence is accepted as a source of strength, and not seen as an excuse to divide, must go on. We can create a world where all are welcome, and safe, and loved – but only if we try.

Under the direction of Trump, Republicans passed the “Big Ugly Bill,” cutting affordable healthcare for millions of Americans while lining the pockets of the wealthy. Now they want to offer a $500 check to make up for skyrocketing healthcare costs. Throwing money at the American people, cannot be a Band-Aid for a gaping wound they created. Families need affordable healthcare, not a one-time payout. Our families deserve better. americanprogress.org/article…

Like countless Americans, I know the fear, heartbreak, and uncertainty that follows a prostate cancer diagnosis devastatingly well – I felt it myself when my own father received his diagnosis. As we mark the end of this Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and as countless families across America struggle to face such an unbearable pain, we must recommit to building a nation where no family ever does again. I introduced the PSA Screening for Him Act to make prostate cancer screenings more accessible by waiving deductibles, copayments, and coinsurances for certain individuals at high risk of developing prostate cancer, because defeating this disease starts with detecting it.

Today marks 50 years of harm, hardship, and uncertainty under the Hyde Amendment. Since its adoption in 1976, the Hyde Amendment has relentlessly and brutally restricted a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions. Its vile legacy can be seen in the countless women it has affected over this painful past century, as well as in every regression in this nation that its very existence has made possible. Indeed, the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and deny millions of women their right to an abortion could only have arrived in the wake of a post-Hyde America, where women’s autonomy has remained under siege, and our personal medical decisions are offered to all hands but our own.

While there is no shortage of cruelties lurking in the laws of this nation, the Hyde Amendment is particularly sickening because its negative impacts are felt mostly by those with the least. For half a century, it has blocked low-income Americans from having access to insurance when seeking abortion coverage. For Black and brown women, as well as those belonging to rural communities who have long navigated systemic discrimination and contended with trauma and hardship in their struggle to receive care, its impact and consequences have been especially devastating.

Systemic injustice does not occur spontaneously. It is born in the cruel and controlling hearts of politicians who steal our power and pretend it is their own. As Members of Congress, we have a moral responsibility to stop the Hyde Amendment before it reaches one more year and harms any more women. Now is the time we come together to put an end to this vicious chapter in our history. That starts with passing the EACH Act and ensuring that every American can access affordable abortion care, no matter what.

Antisemitism has no place in a moral society, nor our beautiful city. I greatly appreciate @nycmayor’s work to protect Jewish New Yorkers and stand against bigotry wherever it arises.
The Talmud teaches that anyone who sustains one soul, has sustained an entire world. For generations, Jewish New Yorkers have sustained our city. Today, we are launching the first-ever municipal Strategy to Combat Antisemitism. Together, we will ensure Jewish New Yorkers are safe and celebrated. We will invest in their protection, their history, and their future. Our safety and our thriving are tied together.

The American people are deeply concerned on the direction unregulated AI is taking our country, and they deserve transparent answers from the men with their hands on the wheel. Instead, all we get is another closed door meeting, and more promises made and broken in secret. We cannot say exactly what they schemed, today. But I am certain we'll see the consequences soon enough.

On behalf of the people of the 9th District of New York, the Clarke family, and myself, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the many loved ones and countless fellow fans of the internationally renowned Mr. Slinger Francisco, the Mighty Sparrow, as we grieve this peerless icon’s transition to paradise. Though he was born in Grenada and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, the Mighty Sparrow’s talent was so substantial and his art so impactful, it could not be confined to the nations of the Caribbean, but instead came to be beloved across the globe. Indeed, the “Calypso King of the World” earned his crown through his remarkable talent, generous spirit, and unrelenting commitment to his craft. I have no doubt that incomparable legacy will persist long past the loss of our Legend. We will remember the Mighty Sparrow as a consummate entertainer, celebrate him as a cultural institution, and honor him as the trailblazer, charitable soul, and innovator he was. And, though our sorrow is great, may we find comfort in knowing that tonight, the Kingdom of Heaven will ring alive with sweet steel melodies and the songs and sounds of our people.

I commend @NewYorkStateAG for recognizing the real danger of unregulated AI. Democrats have been sounding the alarm: AI is advancing faster than the guardrails meant to protect our privacy, civil rights, consumers, and communities can keep up, and it’s clear Big Tech cannot be left to police itself. Congress has a responsibility to provide real oversight, transparency, and accountability here. Innovation without oversight is not progress; it's a risk, and Congress must act. abcnews.com/US/23-states-urg…

The president's so-called "observers" are nothing more than goons he hired to intimidate voters at polling sites. Trump is doing whatever it takes to keep full control over our government, and he'll willing to decimate the democratic process to get it done. cnn.com/2026/09/25/politics/…

TRAVEL ADVISORY: Hey New Yorkers, a nor’easter is on the way! 🌧️💨 If you don’t have to travel, stay home and avoid unnecessary trips. Starting around 2 p.m., strong wind gusts could bring down trees and power lines. Coastal flooding is expected to begin tonight and could be worst Saturday morning, especially in the Rockaways, around Jamaica Bay, and along Staten Island’s coast. If you live in a basement or low-lying area, know your exits and be prepared to move to higher ground if water starts rising.

With all its power and promise, AI can be a tool to bridge the disparities that have followed Black Americans for generations. Without meaningful regulation, it will be just one more excuse to expand them. Our AI Civil Rights Act will take on AI bias and bigotry at the source by mandating AI companies to keep discriminatory models far from the critical decisions that have the greatest impact on Americans’ lives. Our civil liberties do not end where prompts begin, and it is far past time for Congress to legislate like it.
