During Covid there was a trend of football fans asking their their non-football-fan relatives to name an XI of players they knew. It was a fun, silly game, so I asked my mum to do one because I missed her.
Two years since her passing feels like a good time to share it. ❤️

Just very disappointing all round. Difficult not to be depressed about the sort of precedent this sets

I've been lucky enough to watch Harry Kane up close since 2011. My piece on his pursuit of mastery and his endless capacity to surprise.

The away end is an integral part of English football — a glorious, viscous, putrid glue that keeps the whole edifice together.
These people are a special breed; faithful, hardy and very committed, left at the mercy of the fixture list and travel disruption, which is frequent.

Two things are true at the same time: defensive recruitment was bad and Sage’s tactics leave us desperately open. The consequence is leaking chances that often lead to goals.
The number of times a wide CB gets done and the middle CB is dragged wide is completely unsustainable.

Today’s Truth or Padel guest was Thiago Alcantara. The padel standard: pretty high!

The more you read about Khaldoon Al Mubarak, the more you realise he can’t carry on as City chairman if PL is to maintain integrity
Wholly unsurprising that he tried this - and yet still shocking that he did - via @FT
This is why nation states can’t own football clubs
Has there ever been a player who insisted on playing international football for too long and whom managers were too scared to drop in the same way as Ronaldo?
Neymar, perhaps, but injuries got them used to playing without him over time. Other than that, can't think of many
I don’t have the words to describe this crash out from Ronaldo. So I’ll recommend this piece by @jacklang on Jorge Jesus

I am begging people to stop using AI-generated thumbnails on YouTube. It's so obvious, they look shit and make me actively not want to click. A photo with some basic text will always be better.
