Strong coastal winds can create dangerous surf, large waves, and powerful rip currents along Rhode Island beaches. If you’re near the coast: • Stay out of the water when conditions are dangerous. • Keep away from rocks, jetties, and seawalls. • Never turn your back on the ocean. • Keep children and pets away from the water’s edge. • Caught in a rip current? Stay calm, float, and swim parallel to shore until you’re out of the current.

Rhode Island is expected to see a period of strong winds and heavy rain later this week as a coastal storm moves toward Southern New England. 🌊 Mariners: Increasing winds and building seas will create hazardous conditions this week. Gale-force gusts become possible, especially Thursday into the weekend, with the highest chances over the southern offshore waters. Seas could build to 15–20 ft by Friday. #MAwx #RIwx

West Nile Virus risk remains high statewide. Remove standing water that may have collected during Sunday's heavy rain by emptying outdoor containers and tarps to eliminate mosquito breeding. Avoid mosquito bites by using EPA-approved repellents, appropriate clothing, and avoiding peak mosquito activity between dusk and dawn. Learn more at bit.ly/4AxQzgX
