Looks like North Carolina is going to be getting an HOA law soon that limits their ability to charge and control homeowners.
If one of the political parties jumps on this it could still make a difference in the election.

This is how they take control of property - communisim in action. Why are HOAs not outlawed?

There has to be a motive behind it. What would the motive be for all the houses to go into foreclosure? Who benefits? This is some kind of grab.

HOA's should absolutely be illegal!!! They are unconstitutional in every way!

This is a fraudulent operation to steal their homes. Someone or several in the neighborhood HOA are in bed with some big company or foreign entity trying to gain ownership of all those homes. That’s an ordinary slightly upper middle class neighborhood. No one in there can handle a fee like that and if anyone could they’d be foolish to pay that much. It’s a heartbreaking scam. If NC doesn’t step in to stop it the DOJ should.

Why anyone would buy a home with an HOA is absurd.
I'm sorry but I'm not buying a home where a committee of Karen's decides how high my grass can be; if I can put out holiday decorations; what window coverings I can use etc...
It's outrageous!

What does that community have that needs such a huge amount of money? To me I see HOA boards with too much power, embezzlement, etc and I’d never live in one. So do they want them all to foreclose and get nothing or be reasonable?

THIS is why when we were house hunting this past year or so, we refused to buy a house with an HOA, no matter how small the monthly fee was. We passed on a lot of nice houses because of the HOA.

Smells like a developer got an offer for a data center….
But first they must get rid of the current residents

HOA’s are absolutely tyrannical in nature. It is time to outlaw these petty authoritarian despots.

North Carolina is has gone to crap 💩. Thanks to our Democrat governors! Roy Cooper & Josh Stein has increased everything! Insurance, electricity, healthcare! We need @WhatleyNC as our Senator! He will put a stop to us being used & bankrupt. 🦅🇺🇸🔥

Enough. The Magnolia Cove HOA in North Carolina just voted to double fees to $2,500 a month, up from $158 five years ago, after floating $7,500. Families who bought their forever homes now face foreclosure because a private board can invent whatever taxes and rules it wants. Ban HOAs. Housing should be governed by the same city, county, and state laws as everyone else, not by unaccountable boards that pile on special fees and petty restrictions. These aren't "amenities." They're extra taxes that can destroy people's equity. Time to end the HOA racket.

this is a common trick now. they are trying to steal the houses when they become delinquent on their fees, its very common. They have lawyers lined up, as soon as they can they will try and claim the houses.

HOA's suck balls. I had a property in an HOA neighborhood. Sold it. Never again. Lunatic control freaks with nothing better to do than torture their neighbors. Mostly Democrats.

Free advice: I would look into the possibility of suing the Board members for breach of fiduciary duty, if that's available under N.C. law. Include general negligence. Hold a homeowners meeting and remove them all. Amend the bylaws to put a ceiling on dues of 1 or 2% a year.

There is something wildly illegal going on here.
You're telling me it's legal for an HOA fee to be increased to more than the mortgage itself, so that the owners get evicted? So an HOA can simply get the entire street evicted any time they want?

There are 80 homes in this development. 60 are owned by the developer and are unsold. That's the problem.

Average price of a home at Magonlia Cove ~$320k.
Nobody in that neighborhood could afford $1000, much less $2500-$7500 a month.
Developer Runs the HOA? 🤔
High Probability he is underwater on another Development & needs to make up the difference fast.
@EricSpracklen Thoughts?
