THE CAREGIVING CRISIS What happens when caring for someone you love becomes a second full-time job - while the healthcare system, the economy and even our technology often fail to recognize the person doing the caring? For journalist, filmmaker, author and caregiving advocate @RichardLui, that question became deeply personal when his father developed Alzheimer’s. It changed the direction of his life - leading to documentaries, his book Enough About Me, the Caregiving Moonshot, and now an ambitious effort at the @UMich called CAREGenome, which is exploring how data and AI might help us understand what Richard calls the “last three feet of care.” And now Richard has taken that mission to a new national platform with Because We Care, his new series on @MSNOWNews. In our @ProgressPotent1 conversation, Richard talks about his own experience as a caregiver, the hidden human and economic dimensions of caregiving, the emerging care economy, caregiver mental health and loneliness, CAREGenome, spatial AI, and the question of whether technology can actually make care more human rather than less. And Richard brought something special to our conversation: clips from his new Because We Care conversations with @EmmaHeming and @IamLaurenMiller and @Sethrogen, sharing very different experiences of caregiving and dementia. Those stories bring the discussion back to the most important part of all: The human beings behind the data. NEW PPP EPISODE: THE CAREGIVING CRISIS Millions of people provide care for a parent, spouse, child or loved one - often while trying to maintain a career and their own lives. Journalist and caregiving advocate Richard Lui became one of them when his father developed Alzheimer's. That experience ultimately led him from journalism and filmmaking into the care economy, CAREGenome and spatial AI - and now to his new MS NOW series, Because We Care. In our conversation, Richard shares clips from his new interviews with Emma Heming Willis, and Lauren Miller Rogen and Seth Rogen, offering two very different perspectives on caregiving and dementia. The bigger question: Can technology help us understand caregiving without losing sight of the human beings doing it?

💡 Over 100 million family caregivers in the EU provide crucial support for conditions like Alzheimer’s, often unpaid and untrained. In a fireside chat with @BrusselsDC at #BIDs2024, @RichardLui explored how to unlock the economic potential of this invisible workforce!
