Marriage is. . . where fun goes to die.
Actually, the data says the opposite. At every decade from your 20s to 60s, about 1-in-2 married people call life "exciting." Never-married adults start close (45%) but fade to 33% by their 60s.
Marriage clearly doesn't kill the fun.

How do you shift the Overton Window? James Hohman of the Mackinac Center joins @freethe_economy and @RichardMorrison to talk policy entrepreneurship, networking with allies, and why working for reform in your own backyard is worthwhile.

"In other words, it’s bad when a city grows, it’s bad when a city declines, and it’s bad when a city stands still. Among the three paths, there’s no golden mean that will please everyone. Maybe the lesson is that curmudgeons will find a reason to dislike anything. People can find bad things about anything. But the three paths are not equal. It’s better to grow."
Population growth is good - Rising wealth, community esteem come in developed economies that grow.

Card surcharges can raise a posted price by 3% or 4%, sometimes without notice until after payment.

1975:
- Fiscal crisis
- Birth of ULURP
- Passage of SEQRA
- Banned pay toilets
1975 is the "what happened in 1971" of New York City/State
There's a simpler solution to this: legalize pay toilets in New York.
They've been illegal since 1975 under NYGBL 399-A.
This, the work of a group of teenage activists in the 1970s who thought it was unfair to have to pay for toilets (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commit…).
If you ban pricing things, you get shortages.
Stop banning pricing things!

This is excellent from @taylordbarkley and @RachKBarkley - and of course "economics" literally means "the way of the household."
Today @RachKBarkley and I are out with a short piece in @realDailyWire on the ways that digital technologies are bringing family economic activity back home. It’s a return to the historical norm and something we and our kids really appreciate.

The status quo hasn't been the status quo for very long! We can get back to functional rent collection.
This is wild.
"Before the 2020 pandemic, NYCHA's collection rate topped 95%. A moratorium was put in place and expired in January 2022. Since then the collection rate has dropped to around 65%. In fiscal 2026 it fell further, to 59.8%."
Housing needs rent to survive. That's true in public housing, Vienna social housing, rent-stabilized housing, any housing. A mortgage is just rent on housing you own.
The cancel rent movement was a disaster. The damage is still compounding.
