Unfortunately what the California coastline experienced this week could pale in comparison IF king tides this winter combine with a strong Pacific storm with high winds and large ocean swells..
It happened during the “very strong” El Niño event of 1982-82 and *could* happen again..
Good Friday morning everyone!
One more shift to get through…
Unsettled weather has returned to Southern California as a Low pressure system deepening south along the West Coast intersects with a subtropical stream of moisture that stretches out from Hawaii..
Today will be mostly cloudy and mild with some sunny breaks and scattered light showers -
It will NOT be a total wash out..
The best chance for widespread heavier precipitation will be Halloween evening into Sunday morning with clearing Sunday afternoon -
There is still quite a bit of uncertainty in terms of intensity, duration, amounts and geographical coverage with this complex pattern..
I’ll update you through the weekend - Stay safe!

And on average, it only “rains” about 35 days per year in the Greater Los Angeles area..
That number will likely be significantly higher this water year…

“Rain” but not as the word is commonly used anywhere else in the world except California. :-)
Good Thursday morning everyone!
Not much change in the weather pattern is expected today across Southern California..
We will see a bit more in the way of cloudiness with continued dry and mild conditions…
Little disparity is expected in temperatures with highs in the low to mid 70s in all coastal and valley locations..
Rain is still in the forecast for the weekend with the best chances being Halloween night through Sunday morning..
Stay safe and enjoy!
Forecast model discrepancies continue for the Halloween weekend weather system for Southern California..
However, the timing is trending more for a later Saturday evening into Sunday morning rain event with the heaviest precipitation falling in Orange and San Diego counties and parts of the Inland Empire..
Light showers could fall on some areas as early as Friday night..
At this time, overall total rainfall amounts with this system are looking like:
1/4” Ventura Co.
1/2” L.A. Co. & IE
Up to 1” South OC
Our region should see a drying and clearing trend by Sunday afternoon..
Stay tuned for updates on this evolving pattern -
Good Wednesday morning everyone!
High pressure aloft will produce another nice, dry and mild day across Southern California..
We will see some low clouds this morning, otherwise a mixture of sunshine and high clouds..
Not much change is expected through Friday but rain is still in the forecast for the weekend..
Stay safe and enjoy!

The *Predicted* (King) Astronomical High Tide at King Harbor, Redondo Beach -
The water level is running 12-18”+ ABOVE this level due to El Niño’s Kelvin Wave and the marine heat wave that continues along our coast -
Coastal flooding is occurring…
In the coming winter months, the predicted high tides are even higher and IF those coincide with strong onshore winds and high surf, flooding (and damage) could be much more significant and widespread -
