Space feels a little emptier tonight. For so many of us, Sir Patrick Stewart was the captain we grew up trusting. When Jean-Luc Picard stood up to speak, you listened. He could face down a warship, defend a stranger’s humanity or quietly admit he was wrong—and make every moment believable. He gave Star Trek its conscience as much as its commanding voice. Through Picard, he showed us that intelligence, compassion and courage belonged together in the captain’s chair. And there was something rather special about a Yorkshire lad taking the bridge of the Enterprise and making the universe listen. Thank you for the adventures, Sir Patrick. For the dignity, the warmth, and the belief that humanity might yet become something better. The bridge is yours, Number One. Our captain has earned his rest. Goodnight, Sir Patrick. And thank you. 🖖

That is where the US constitution is hopeless. Impeachment means nothing as it is merely the prelude to a trial in the Senate. The whole process could take years.
If this is true, if the president plans to restart the war against Iran after the midterm elections, it is 100% an impeachable offense if it is not preceded by a direct authorization from Congress, or a congressional declaration of war against Iran. Of course, President Trump has already done that twice, so he is already at grave risk of impeachment, with or without a Democratic majority in the House and Senate after next Tuesday’s election. But I can categorically state that militarily, there is no chance that a renewed conflict could achieve any positive outcome for the United States, and almost certainly would lead to our devastation financially, militarily, and diplomatically. President Trump will richly deserve impeachment and removal from office if he condemns us to this course of action.

Chancellor John Healey just handed Ukraine another £10bn while British households are still choosing between heating and eating. Zelensky said it made his day. Millions of people across Britain who are struggling with the cost of living crisis are still waiting for theirs.

It is never a problem to find money for wars!
If my math is correct @JohnHealey_MP and @andyburnham could have given every UK household £344 in cash this winter using the funds they've set aside to flush into the abyss that is Ukraine.

SNP would be extremely foolish to ignore a report by currency expert, Professor Thibault Laurentjoye, which recommends Scotland should use it’s own currency on day one of independence. #ScottishCurrency #JohnSwinney #SNP #Scotland #Politics #News4Scotland #TheScotlandChannel

You have to laugh (if it were not so tragic) the Brits talk of "Britain's missing sovereign wealth fund": nitter.cf/faisalislam/status/211… At the moment it is estimated that 85% of remaining oil & gas reserves lie in Scottish territorial waters.
NEW Britain’s missing sovereign wealth fund… Treasury officials have modelled that had the UK done what Norway did with North Sea revenues, there would be a £1 trillion fund… As Chancellor sets up Energy Wealth Fund, a look at the long historical argument about where the oil windfall went, including from interviews with those who have run Norways $2.4 trillion fund, now the biggest in the world, filled from the proceeds of the same North Sea. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm4g…

It is nice that Stuart admits he "knows fuck all" about economics, though I think we had already realised that!
You were right about what? Are you sticking up for the disgraced snake oil salesman who knows as much about economics as I do, which other than an o level many years ago is fuck all?

There are a lot on here that don't understand banks and holding companies, indeed many that simply refuse to do so. Here are the latest Annual Accounts for RBS Plc, for 2025 and lodged at Companies House in June 2026. Now tell us the Royal Bank does not exist!

It takes a lot to get tens of thousands of people to riot. For it to happen simultaneously across several countries points to a supranational underlying cause, as opposed to local grievance at craigmurray.org.uk/archives/…

The Isle of Man is 86000 people. It has Douglas Corporation. The other towns like Laxey, Ramsay, Castletown all have a Town Board of Commissioners. Probably around ten councils in total for the Island.
But it’s true. Scotland is almost certainly the most centralised country in Europe.
