Core services, first.
Before Council funds anything optional, we should fund the services Calgary can’t function without: safe drinking water, police and fire protection, roads and transit.
At my Ward 11 budget town hall last week, the residents who joined me liked having a clear test for what counts as core. I ask three questions: Is it the City’s job under Alberta law? Would losing it put people at risk or seriously disrupt daily life? Does it provide a public system that households can’t reasonably provide for themselves?
Water passes all three. I want Calgary’s urgent water repairs funded now and the work to replace aging pipes to keep moving. I voted against the four-year water rate increases because I believe Council can do more to keep bills affordable. I’m prepared to cut optional spending elsewhere in the budget to ease the pressure on households.
When I vote on this budget, I’ll start by asking whether we’ve funded the services Calgarians depend on. Only then should we decide what else we can afford.
Core services, first.
I’ve heard from a lot of Ward 11 residents and businesses who are concerned about the proposed water rate increases and the growing cost of living in Calgary. We voted against this increase because affordability matters, and we need to be looking at alternatives and finding ways to save money rather than simply accepting the one option put forward by administration.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be working to find cost savings ahead of budget discussions and continuing to push for decisions that reduce the financial burden on Calgarians.

A group of Calgary city councillors who voted against the increase to water rates are coming out with a joint statement that they’ll be working to find cost savings ahead of the upcoming four-year budget.
My team and I make it a priority to attend community association meetings, hear directly from residents and stay connected to what’s happening in our neighbourhoods. It was great to recently attend the Lakeview, Kingsland and North Glenmore Park Community Association AGMs.
These associations are run by volunteers who give their time to organize events, support local programs, care for community spaces and bring neighbours together. Their work makes our communities stronger, and I’m grateful for all they do.
I always love to hear how many trick or treaters came to your door on Halloween. Not many here in Willow Park, 10 or so. Highest I have heard so far is 1,072 in Evanston before 7:15pm 😲 How many trick or treaters came to your door? Drop your community too if you like!
Glad to join Henry Wise Wood’s Parent/Student Council AGM this week. Thank you to the parents, students and school staff who give their time to support the school community.
It was a good opportunity to hear directly from families and students. Thanks for having me!
Thank you to the Ward 11 residents and Calgarians from across the city who joined my budget town hall for a robust discussion about Calgary’s priorities.
There was overwhelming support for focusing on core services, along with serious concerns about tax increases and the pressure on household budgets.
Calgarians work hard for their money. It’s our responsibility on Council to ensure we’re spending it wisely, putting needs before wants and delivering the services residents rely on.
I’ll be bringing that message to budget deliberations. Thank you for making your voices heard.
It was great meeting some of the youngest members of Ward 11, reading stories and singing songs together at Fish Creek library.
Our libraries are such a great resource for families and a wonderful place for kids to learn, explore and have fun. Thanks to the Calgary Public Library team for having us!

🚧 14 STREET SW: SATURDAY CLOSURE 🚧
Repairs are progressing faster than expected, and all lanes could reopen as early as Saturday evening.
Before that happens, a FULL SOUTHBOUND CLOSURE near 75 Avenue SW is required on Saturday, October 24, starting at approximately 7 a.m.
➡️ Please use alternate routes.
One southbound lane is expected to reopen around midday. Backfilling and paving will follow, with all lanes expected to reopen Saturday evening.
These times are estimates and may change as work progresses. Please allow extra travel time and follow posted signs.
Thank you for your patience, and to the crews working extended hours to complete these repairs safely
One year ago today, the residents of Ward 11 put their trust in me to represent them at City Hall. I remain grateful for that opportunity and mindful of the responsibility that comes with it.
The best part of this first year has been connecting with neighbours across our communities - hearing your concerns, learning from your experiences and working together to make Ward 11 an even better place to call home.
My focus remains on the basics: reliable city services, safe neighbourhoods and responsible spending of your tax dollars.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out, stopped to chat or stepped up for our community. There is plenty of work ahead, and I’m honoured to keep doing it on your behalf.
🚧 14 STREET SW TRAFFIC UPDATE 🚧
Watermain repairs near 75 Avenue SW are leaving just ONE northbound lane and ONE southbound lane open.
➡️ Please use alternate routes wherever possible to help reduce congestion. If you must travel through the area, allow extra time, follow posted signs and slow down around crews.
Crews made significant progress over the weekend and are continuing to work extended hours. The repair requires careful excavation because the damaged pipe is close to a major feedermain.
Work is expected to continue into the week of October 26, with the completion date still uncertain.
I know these lane closures are frustrating. Thank you for your patience while crews work to complete the repairs safely.

I’ve been saying it since 2021: City Hall needs to focus on core services. Needs before wants.
This video is from my 2021 campaign. Five years later, my priorities haven’t changed: reliable infrastructure, safe communities, and respect for your tax dollars.
With budget decisions ahead, I hope this Council will finally make the tough choices to put those priorities first. That means funding the essentials and being willing to say no to spending we simply cannot justify.
That’s what I’ll keep pushing for.
🚧 WARD 11 TRAFFIC ALERT: 14 STREET SW 🚧
Watermain repairs near 75 Avenue SW are scheduled to begin today, October 16, and continue through October 29. The timeline may change depending on conditions encountered during repairs.
Expect lane closures and reduced speeds in BOTH directions on 14 Street SW between 75 Avenue SW and Heritage Drive SW, including impacts to turning lanes at Heritage Drive.
➡️ Please use alternate routes wherever possible. If you need to travel through the area, allow extra time, follow posted signs and slow down around crews. See the attached City maps for traffic impacts during each repair stage.
For Eagle Ridge residents: temporary water service is being installed to support the community and Heritage Park. Reduced water pressure and periodic outages may occur. Water wagons will be available as a precaution, and residents are encouraged to reduce water use during repairs.
Rockyview General Hospital will not be affected by this work.
Updates and water wagon locations: calgary.ca/wateroutages
Questions: call 311.
Thank you for your patience while crews complete these repairs.

I voted and you should too. Our last municipal election had a turnout of just 39%. This referendum has been talked about extensively, everywhere. The only thing that matters is your individual vote, so go make it count. Go to map.elections.ab.ca to find out where to vote.
Happy Thanksgiving, Ward 11! 🍂🦃
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on what we’re grateful for, and I’m especially thankful for the opportunity to represent the residents of Ward 11.
I’m grateful for the conversations, the community spirit, and the many people who dedicate their time and energy to making our neighbourhoods better places to live.
Whether you’re spending today with family, friends, or enjoying some well deserved downtime, I wish you a safe, relaxing, and happy Thanksgiving!
