The favorite on Kalshi won 479 of 487 midterm races so far. That’s 98%, forecasted before a single vote was counted. The markets beat the polls and the models. The data 🧵

Just ran into my buddy @ryangrim biking down the streets of DC and he's ALL SMILES—that's how good last night was for Democrats, folks.

I am generally a believer in candidate quality, but many of these Dem victories are so overwhelming that I question whether it was much of a factor. I think Cornyn would also have lost in Texas, for example!

James Talarico is basically giving the same speech as candidate Morty from the citadel election episode of Rick and Morty.

Trump sounds unusually chagrinned on Fox News right now.

Hard to believe the Darlene Graham era is coming to an end. The Lioness of the Senate!

Remember when Senate Republicans considered nuking the filibuster in order to pass some lame voter ID law that would have had neutral to negative effects on GOP turnout?

None of these results are unpredictable or that surprising, but the two that stand out to me so far are: 1) Darline Graham losing, and 2) James Talarico winning by THAT much. Wow.

Where is the Republican majority? Is it safe? Is it alright?
The Anakin edits might turn the tides of the midterms

Yeah if anyone thinks they get to insulate their hobbyhorse from criticism after a wipeout like this they are mistaken. Iran War is clearly catastrophically unpopular and has to end. But like...tariffs have to go too. Need to pull every cost-of-living lever you can.
Auron - who has me blocked - is wrong here. Tariffs - often effective, often not, definitely raised prices.

Republicans seem to have gerrymandered themselves out of seats by creating close districts that they are losing in a blue wave. If this result holds, the poetic justice will live in infamy forever.

GOP now has to hope that whatever is going on in the south (Hispanic shift away from Trump?) is for some reason (i.e. demographics) confined to that region (goodbye Texas) but it's going to be different in the Midwest. That's not impossible (rustbelt voters have been highly problematic for Dems in the Trump era) though I wouldn't bet on it at present.

If only Republicans had been warned ahead of time, or had some reason to suspect, that launching an unpopular war in the Middle East would produce a backlash that saw Democrats retake Congress...

Wise words from @kmanguward: "This is the problem with a locked-down two-party system. To vote against Trump’s tariffs, you might have to vote for a protectionist Democrat. To vote against Trump’s war, you might have to vote for a moderately hawkish Democrat. To vote against Trump’s executive overreach, you might have to vote for someone who was happy to hand those same powers to Biden or Barack Obama. There’s no way to use your major party vote to convey that you’re sick to death of all of it or communicate your real policy preferences." nytimes.com/2026/11/03/opini…
