A family member is probably not long for this world. He has cancer and it’s not looking good.
I should probably log off for a while. This place is a different form of cancer.

“warrantmogged” 🤣
Anyway, who’s really surprised by this?
Clavicular, looksmaxxing streamer, has been charged with rape, drugging a minor under the age of 16 for sex, and possession of alcohol under 21. Charged in Orleans District Court, Massachusetts.

Me: sitting on the couch, minding my own business.
My wife: “Oh! It is time.” She then puts an Earth Wind & Fire video on. It got funky.
Apparently it’s the 21st of September, and that’s when it gets funky.

"I think we lost 'em," Skye said, breathing heavily. She looked down at the Gizmodex in her hand, the light from its screen softly illuminating her face. "We can't stay here, though. SecFor is still looking for us."
Haze peeked out of the alley long enough to scan the neon-bathed streets through his Technovisor. District 9 of Neo Elysium City were unusually dead tonight. "Word must have gone out," he said, cracking open a Red Bull. "There's hardly anybody around. We'll be spotted too easily."
Skye looked up at her big brother, her violet hair shimmering in the ambient light. "We have to go underground, into the aqueduct network. Ugh, a sewer level!"
"More like Route Kanal in Half Life 2," Haze smugly corrected.
Skye smirked back. "I hope there's an airboat waiting for us. I'm going to yell woo, airboat just like Archer!"
Having finished his Red Bull, Haze belched loudly and crushed the can on his forehead. "Let's go, sis."
"Hol' up," she replied. "One last thing. Come here."
Haze sighed. "We don't have time for this," he said, but his little sister wouldn't be dissuaded. "Fine." He stepped closer to her as she held her Gizmodex up, her arm fully outstretched.
"Selfie for the 'Gram!" Skye said, snapping a picture.
I was talking to @LCplLoPro about Ready Player One (which I've gone through with @372Pages). It's...not a good book. Ernst Cline is kind of a hack.
I'm not being petty- I don't begrudge the man his success, even if was astroturfed a little (hate the game, not the...player).
The genre and setting aren't interesting to me, but that's not a problem. The problem is the book is badly written, with a wholly unlikeable protagonist who only stops dropping pop culture references long enough to go on a page-long lecture about how there's no God. The references are just crammed in there, too, piled on top of one another in heaps.
Hey, remember the Atari 2600? I do. I had one. Apparently kids in the future will log into a VR world where they could do anything, only to sit in a rec room and play Atari like I did in 1987.
It's crap, and the fact that it was popular and successful doesn't change that. Big Bang Theory ran for like 12 seasons and won multiple Emmys, too.
ANYWAY, that got Coop and me to speculating about a dystopian future society where some subculture is obsessed with the pop culture of our current era, call it 2012-present.
Call of Duty. Pepe the Frog. Markiplier. GamerGate. The MCU. Fidget spinners. Vaping. The Tesla Cybertruck. The Chive. Reddit. The New Atheists and the Intellectual Dark Web. Covid. Trump. The memes.
I mean, this isn’t that controversial, is it? People who don’t believe a given religion don’t think the tenets of that religion are true. The notion that, instead, their deities and superstitions are actually real, but are just demons, sounds pretty out there to me.
I have non-Christian friends. They don’t think Jesus was a demon who tricked people into thinking he came back from the dead. They just don’t think he came back from the dead.
Full disclosure: I also don’t think the story of Genesis is true. I don’t think the Noahic flood, where he built an Ark and put two or each kind of animal on it, actually happened. I think Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden is an allegory, or maybe a creation myth.
Replying to @SeanTrende
It’s a good thing for Meg that the Vice President doesn’t care if his political allies (and internet fan girls) think his wife is a demon-worshipper.
“The Hindu pantheon is real, actually, but they’re demons!” is new to me, but a bunch of people on the internet are insisting it’s “basic Christian doctrine.”
Allow me to present an alternative theory: maybe the Hindu deities just don’t exist.
The same can be said of the Norse, Greco-Roman, and Egyptian gods. They were myths.
This is the simplest answer for anyone who isn’t a practicing member of those religions.
“By the way, we don’t believe every pagan god is a “demon,” as Catholics. Put simply (because this requires truncating), they certainly COULD be demons, but more likely they’re just imaginary, and the people who worship them are breaking a commandment against idols.”
It’s not a reference to the statue, but satirization of the construct of her response. I lost patience with Megan and blocked her because she’s a snake, full stop. I knew her before she became an apologist for creeps and racists and I’ve been pretty genuinely disappointed at how the evils attendant to seeking temporal fame have basically eaten her from the inside.
Ultimately, whether you believe the statue is a demon or not, she tried to make an exception for someone she liked; she seemed shocked that a person who falls into the category she denigrated would object to being denigrated, and then nervously shed crocodile tears in her mentions, profusely expressing shock that ANYONE would ever DARE to send a nasty message to someone who belongs to a group she hurled insults at and supported racist critics of for days beforehand.
If you paint a group of people with a broad brush, you should have the courage to stand behind that assessment, even once you realize it makes you a bigot. You don’t get to stand behind your religion when, say, someone you respect like @HarmeetKDhillon is affected by the fruit of your claims (“demon worshipper” is also far from the only thing Megan called or agreed on with regard to Hindus).
If she believes it, she should have the balls to tell Harmeet to her face that she’s a demon worshipper, not act aghast in her comments that Harmeet doesn’t like being the subject of bigoted language.
By the way, we don’t believe every pagan god is a “demon,” as Catholics. Put simply (because this requires truncating), they certainly COULD be demons, but more likely they’re just imaginary, and the people who worship them are breaking a commandment against idols. The supposition is that they haven’t been exposed to Christ and will have an interesting time of it when they get to the afterlife — but true ignorance of Christ can be forgiven at the gate. We’re far harsher on people like Megan, who have not only known and refused allegiance to the one true Catholic Church, but denigrated it while living.
I was given this book, by a relative, as a child. The explanation presented therein was that dinosaurs lived alongside man in the antediluvian world. They were not carnivorous, and ones with sharp teeth had them for eating tough plants. Most of them were destroyed in the flood, but some existed afterward.
Even at nine years old I thought this was stupid as hell, but my mom told me to be nice and just say thank you, so that’s what I did.

Incredible
“The priest had a vision of the character Chika Fujiwara from the Japanese anime program Kaguya-sama: Love Is War dancing her signature "Chika Dance" wearing a long black dress, a red hat, and styled pink hair.”
“…the priest had changed the background instead to feature the profile of Nazi political theorist Carl Schmitt…”
