Whether I'll ever write again remains uncertain, but meanwhile I'm seeing where this other road takes me.

Some people don't understand why Marco Rubio is so extremely pro-colonialist, because he is technically of Cuban descent.
But it's important to understand that Rubio does NOT see himself as Cuban. He constantly emphasizes that he is of Spanish (and Italian) descent.
In his latest speech in Greece, in which he again heaped praise on Western colonialism, Rubio proudly described himself as "a great-grandson of settlers who arrived in the new world from Spain".
He heroized European colonialists Hernán Cortés and Christopher Columbus.
Rubio does NOT see his family as Cuban; he sees his ancestors as European colonialists who temporarily lived in Cuba (as wealthy, light-skinned elites who supported the right-wing US puppet dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista), before re-settling in Florida.
This, in fact, is exactly how many conservative, pro-imperialist elites in Latin America see themselves, by the way.
There are still useful idiots out there who deny that the US is an empire.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio just gave another explicitly pro-colonialist speech, boasting that the US is a "continental empire".
He proudly identified the origins of the US empire in the colonization of North America. He totally erased the Indigenous peoples who lived there, referring to it as an "open and wild land" at the time of colonization.
Rubio waxed poetic on the "American frontier spirit", with no mention of the millions of Native Americans who died in the largest genocide in human history.
Rubio also praised the genocidal colonialists Christopher Columbus and Hernán Cortés.
Rubio traced the origins of the US empire back to Alexander the "Great", whom he heroized for "conquer[ing] the entire known world". The US empire has tried to do exactly the same, on top of many millions of corpses.
(This is the official transcript of Rubio's speech: state.gov/releases/office-of…)
It bothers me how utterly false this is.
It's like seeing a person you *know* only eats chicken nuggets described as a snooty elitist.
American media plots are nothing but holes, always excused with "turn your brain off it's just a movie" or "it's about the emotion and vibes".
Scorcese won an Oscar for this.
It was a box office hit and topped critic lists. It's not just recent MCU garbage that relies on "brains turned off".

This thread and every compounding post was, as is said among the youth, truth bomb after bomb. Followed
1) It's fine for Marxism to be compared with religion. Discipline, rituals, values… call it Sittlichkeit and it's perfectly secular.
2) Merely understanding—not *agreeing*, just *getting*—Marxism is a completely irreversible process, like understanding gravity or evolution.
Marxists are legitimately religious people who think that if you read their holy texts earnestly, you immediately have to convert to their religion. If you don't, your inability to see God's light just makes you very dull. In the same way believers cannot accept anyone reading the Bible/Quran and not coming off convinced without a backhanded insult.
Every educated person knows who the gravedigger is supposed to be according to Marx and why. I was indirectly asking a meta question about why they're not digging the grave and why people like you are necessary.
But the "READ MARX!!1" tic is just too strong for the faithful, as if a certain Lenin didn't already feel forced to conclude the proletariat are never going to do the revolution on their own and that the vanguard is needed to nudge them into this direction.
I think the new conditions of the world will bring with themselves a new kind of confident ruthlessness, very Leninist in style, and confusingly diverse for reactionaries ("You support both queers and Palestine!?!?").
It will be decried as zealotry, and it won't matter.
Class struggle exists and drives human society whether you get it or not.

And for those who like to say Marxism is a science, any scientific literature is a way of encoding reality into digestible formulae and examples to make it comprehensible. Works from any field will be total gibberish if you don't learn the terms, meanings, relations etc.

I really think people need to stop worrying so much about appearing dogmatic. They should not *be* dogmatic, but who cares if it "appears" that way?
You know what Physicists do to people who loudly disagree with basic Physics consensus at Physics conferences? They kick them out.

You see, Jane Doe thought her friends would protect her. She thought she'd have a good time with them, and then they'd tuck her in. Alas, her friends were traitors and instead waited for her most vulnerable to sell her out to their slobbering loser friends for brownie points.
This exchange is perfect.

the thing which Cabral identifies here is exactly why it took burgher revolutionaries like Müntzer and Gaismair to organize and direct europe's first 'successful' peasant uprising, the Bauernkrieg

This weekend, I was watching football with a group of my college friends. One guy asked Claude to give us some trivia about the Vikings (we were in Minnesota).
Some of the trivia answers were surprising to us. Claude then admitted it made up the answers. It did this a few more times and then admitted its trivia hosting basically went as badly as it possibly could have gone.
Stuff like this is how the vast majority of people are using these tools, and they suck. It kind of toned down my fear that these things are going to end humanity. Maybe figure out who is in the NFL Hall of Fame first.
