From a tainted money dilemma involving a French bishop and Parisienne sex workers to donor dominance in the Byzantine Empire, our third timeline explores the history of fundraising in the Middle Ages. bit.ly/FR-history-476-1499
You can access our two previous timelines – covering 1900 to the present and 1500-1899 – via the fundraising history project page of our website. This project is being ably led by ENO’s @meenamtj . rogare.net/history
We have published a 10-point research agenda for the ethical use of AI in fundraising.

And the final four:
7. Understand second-order effects of mainstreaming ethical AI
8. Develop oversight mechanisms for AI in fundraising
9. Understand AI’s limitations in applying fundraising ethics
10. Utility of using AI for/to charity beneficiaries.

The project was led by @cherian_koshy, with a team comprising Stuart Chell, @JessCrombie, Meena Das, @sdecksheimer, @aliceferris, Lisette Gelinas, @IanMacQuillin and @damianobroin.
Our second timeline of #fundraisinghistory, covering 1500-1899 is published, encompassing events and developments in the UK, USA, Australia, Ireland, Netherlands and Germany. bit.ly/FR-history-1501-1899
The 1500-1899 #fundraisinghistory timeline also suggests that woman have played a larger role in the development of fundraising as a profession than previously acknowledged. By 1893, there were 20,000 women with paid roles as fundraisers. bit.ly/FR-history-1501-1899
To accompany the 1500-1899 timeline, project leader @meenamtj has written a blog exploring how our study of #fundraisinghistory should consider more complex narratives, and further explores the history of women in fundraising bit.ly/complex-fr-history
History
We’ve published the first in a series of #fundraisinghistory timelines, covering 1900-present. It contains some ‘firsts’, including first telethon and child sponsorship, as well as items on the social & cultural history of fundraising. More info – criticalfundraising.com/2023…
We’ll be following up with #fundraisinghistory timelines for the period 1500-1899, Middle Ages, and antiquity. We’ll also do thematic timelines for topics including fundraising firsts, social/cultural ideas & shifts, emergence of new ideas, and fundraising controversies.
Our rationale for the #fundraisinghistory timelines is not just for idle interest, but as a tool to help us gain a better understanding of how our profession has evolved and developed, and thus gain new insights into how to improve it. bit.ly/FR-history-1900-prese…

Tuesday sees the launch of @RogareFTT's Blueprint to Dismantle Patriarchal Structures in the Fundraising Profession to which I've contributed a paper on narratives to engage men in gender equality - something I think is absolutely essential if we're ever going to achieve parity
On 7 March we’re publishing the 2nd phase of our Gender Issues in Fundraising work – A Blueprint to dismantle patriarchal structures in fundraising. We’d love fundraisers in USA/Canada to join the virtual launch at 10.30am EST/7.30am PST. Register here – bit.ly/3SBup7L
Further sections in our Blueprint to dismantle the fundraising patriarchy are: Donor-perpetrated sexual harassment – (by Jessica Rose); how to engage and enlist more men in being part of the change (by @Becky_Slack).
The Blueprint is amazing piece of work by our project team, which has been led by Rogare’s chair @HeatherRHill1. Here’s a sneak peak of the cover.
