Mohammed volunteered as a hygiene promoter in his community in Sumsumma, Damaturu, because he saw how poor hygiene had affected his community.
Driven by a desire to make a difference, he received training from IOM with support from the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund (NHF).
He began going from house to house, educating families about good hygiene, safe water handling, and the dangers of poor sanitation.
Today, Mohammed proudly sees the impact of his efforts and remains hopeful for a future where good hygiene is fully adopted across his community.

Creating safe, regular, and dignified pathways for young Nigerians looking to move abroad is critical for the next 25 years.
IOM Nigeria's Chief of Mission, @DimancheSh believes that beyond raising awareness about the extreme dangers and risks of irregular migration, the key is in establishing strengthened systems.
"It's important to create systems that are well strengthened that can facilitate and serve Nigerians who want to leave the country鈥攖hey should live in a more safe and dignified way," she said.
She also points to the opportunity in leveraging Nigeria鈥檚 "huge diaspora community out there who are well skilled" to fuel national development.
Where do you think we should start: fixing local systems or tapping into global networks?
