🚨 Arsene Wenger on why the talk about Cesc Fabregas next job misses what he’s doing at Como:
“Someone showed me the score at 8–1 and asked, ‘How long before a big club comes for Cesc?’
“I said, ‘How long have you been watching?’
“He said, ‘I’ve only just seen the score.’
“I said, ‘Then you’ve got eight reasons to put the game on.’
“When Cesc was young at Arsenal, he was very good at seeing what could happen after the pass he was about to play. The difficult part, at that age, is persuading a man who’s played five hundred games that you can see something he hasn’t seen yet.
“I remember asking him about a pass he’d played into a teammate with a man right behind him. I said, ‘What did you expect him to do with that?’
“He told me, ‘Give it back. His man had followed him, so I could run into the space.’
“I said, ‘Did he know you were going to run there?’
“He said, ‘He will next time.’
“I liked that answer. The first time, your teammate can think you’ve given him a bad ball. The second time, he can give it back to you without even looking. There’s a lot of work between those two passes.
“That’s what I wanted to see when Como were three up at half-time. Lens made changes. The crowd had fifteen minutes to tell themselves the next goal could make it a game again. Then the second half starts, Nico Paz gets the ball and Lucas Da Cunha goes straight back to making the run he believes Nico will see. Within two minutes, it’s four.
“People will remember the eight. I’ll remember how quickly they got the fourth. I’ve been in enough dressing rooms to know how tempting it is, at 3–0, to congratulate everybody on a very good half and spend the next one trying to preserve it. Como came out and picked up the conversation they’d been having with the ball.
“The man who showed me the score came back to it. He said, ‘But surely Cesc is ready for a bigger job now?’
“I said, ‘Of course he is. Look how much bigger the job at Como has become since he took it.’
“Think of a supporter who has spent years going to the same ground. For a long time, if he wanted to explain what his club meant to him, he had to tell you about going with his father, or where they used to stand, or the player he loved whom you’d probably never heard of. He knew exactly why it mattered. He couldn’t always expect you to.
“Now he can ring the same people who used to ask him, ‘How did Como get on?’ out of politeness. Before he can say a word, they’re asking him, ‘What on earth have you got going on down there?’
“I imagine he’s been waiting quite a long time to have that conversation. I’d let him finish it before asking where his manager should go next.”

42 years ago today, I'm sitting with my brother and the Forest players on the @NFFC team coach on the way to St James Park to watch them play @NUFC .
Belly full from breakfast at the Seaburn Hotel, hands full with crisps, pop and chocolate from "the box", a tradition BC had for all away games for the players on the bus driven by Albert in his flat cap.
Face literally aching from smiling and thinking "how the eff" is this happening because of a man we met walking along the beach at 8.30 this morning who'd taken a shine to two little "ragtags" from Sunderland and wanted to give us an experience we'd never forget.
Boy did he to that!!
I spent the next 9 years of my life inside the City Ground on that First Team bus and in that First team dressing room, Home and Away travelling with the team to all of the most famous football grounds in England watching the best manager in the land and some of the best players in the land, playing the kind of football that had fans up and down the Country purring in delight. I watched them win trophies at Wembley where I sat in the dressing room listening to the legend deliver the most simple but most brilliant team talks to get his "lads" walking on air.
He gave me memories most can only dream of, memories that passing time has not and can not ever diminish and for that, thank you Brian Clough, you changed that "ragtags" life in ways he could never have thought possible.
"You Reds!!" ❤️🤍😍

Today, they are launching one of Kenya’s biggest white elephants: the Dangote Kenya refinery in Lamu.
A 700,000-barrel-a-day plant that Kenyans may end up paying for long after the speeches are over.
I have asked one question for a week. Still, no honest answer from UDA.
Where will this refinery get 700,000 barrels of crude every day?
Turkana is not the answer. Lokichar oil starts at about 20,000 barrels a day. Even if it rises to 50,000, that is still a tiny fraction of what this plant needs.
Stop saying, “Our oil will feed it.” It will not.
Uganda’s crude is already going through Tanzania. That route was chosen, and a refinery is on the cards. South Sudan’s oil already has a shorter and cheaper path to Port Sudan. No serious buyer will send it the long way through Kenya out of goodwill once the war is over.
So this refinery must import almost all its crude.
That is when the excuses begin.
They say Nigeria imports too. Nigeria produces oil and sits on the Atlantic with a huge market, it only imports a little. Kenya does not.
They say India imports too. India is next to Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf. Kenya is far. Distance costs money. That is not politics. That is arithmetic. They can import and still sell at market prices.
They say China and Japan import too. Those countries have industries that consume the fuel. Kenya is not industrialized at that scale. Importing for them makes economic sense; they aren't importing to sell again.
They say a refinery also produces other products. Those are usually by-products. They do not save a plant that cannot lock in cheap, reliable crude at 700,000 barrels a day.
This is how a white elephant works.
Politicians get the ceremony.
Contractors get the contracts.
Land dealers get paid.
Investors get protection.
Kenyans get the bill when the project starts making losses.
Some people say, “If Dangote is putting money in, it must work.”
That is naive.
He is not putting unprotected personal cash on the table. He is using investor money, debt, and a deal structured so that if the project collapses, Kenya becomes the backstop.
He can recover and walk.
Taxpayers stay.
A refinery is not a monument. It is a machine. It lives or dies on cheap crude, cheap transport, and a market that can absorb the product at a profit.
Kenya does not have those three things at this scale.
I am not asking for noise. I am asking for proof.
Show the 700,000 barrels.
Show where they will come from.
Show the price.
Show who pays if it fails.
If they cannot show that, this is not industrialization.
It is a very expensive photograph.
And if all you have is “you hate progress,” or insults, you are clueless.

🚨Mourinho was asked if Arda Güler is untouchable
🎙️Reporter : “Mourinho, Arda Güler is the future of Real Madrid. Is he untouchable?”
🗣️Mourinho: “No one is untouchable, not Arda, not Vinicius, not mbappè,not even the Bernabèu itself. If Arda doesn’t press like a madman for 90 minutes, he sits. If mbappè walks, he sits. If vini starts dancing instead of defending,he sits. This is Real Madrid, we don’t have princes ,we have soldiers. Arda has magic in his left foot..but magic without work is just a circus and I don’t manage circuses”
🎙️Reporter: “So you’re saying even the club’s most expensive players can be dropped?”
🗣️Mourinho: “Especially them. The more they earn, the more they have to prove. That’s the rule and Anyone who doesn’t like it can go play for a club that gives participation trophies “.

Working with a young player on his shooting technique this week really underlined how important it is to support players with their technical development.
One of the biggest misconceptions in some of the current thinking around coaching is that players will simply discover effective solutions for themselves.
Some will. Many won’t.
For me, the coach has an important role in supporting that discovery.
Let the player explore. Let them try different solutions. But also guide them, ask questions, give feedback and help them understand how changes in their body position, foot contact and movement affect the outcome.
It’s a constant loop:
Try → feedback → adjust → try again.
That’s guided discovery.
We’re not trying to create robots or one “perfect” technique. We’re helping players discover more effective solutions.
And ultimately, better technical solutions give players more options when they go back into the game.
