This might just be my favorite D&D module of ALL TIME. B4 The Lost City (1982), by Tom Moldvay. You think you’re getting a dungeon beneath an ancient pyramid. Instead, Moldvay gives you CYNIDICEA. A dying civilization of masked dreamers, forgotten gods, rival factions, and the sinister cult of Zargon. There’s an underground lake. Mushroom forests. An entire mapped city with roughly 1,000 inhabitants living beneath the desert sands. And here’s the incredible part. The pyramid is only the BEGINNING. Moldvay gives the DM the foundations of an entire campaign. Unite the warring factions. Destroy Zargon. Restore a lost royal heir. Find a cure for the people. Perhaps even rebuild an entire civilization. And those are just SOME of the possibilities. This wasn’t simply a dungeon crawl. It was a whole WORLD waiting to be explored. Forty four years later, I still think it’s one of the finest adventures TSR ever published. Who else absolutely LOVES B4? And did your party ever venture beyond the pyramid?
