ALT "Suicide is commonly framed through a narrative of prevention, by researchers and the public alike. The grounds, consequences, and effects of such framing, however, remain largely uninterrogated. The 2023 UWG Jim Klee Lecture will aim to opening up a space for more open conversation about suicide in which the suicidal individual can exist in all their complexities." About the guest speaker: Saartje Tack is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Sociology department at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and holds a PhD from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Saartje's work is situated in gender studies, critical suicide studies, and the medical humanities. It engages with questions of subjectivity, identity, and agency, and the role of normativity in how these concepts are mobilised, represented, and embodied.
