Been thinking about the Kanzler hire all morning and here are my thoughts - I like it - The wily old vet manager did not work, they needed the exact opposite with this young core of players - Hollander’s comments make me feel like we can expect Kanzler to be more of a player’s coach. That, combined with his background in player development is a combination the Mariners have not had at head coach. - I would have preferred someone with at least SOME managerial experience, but if Dipoto and Hollander want to really make a splash this was the best choice This really feels like the exact right move for this Mariners team. Julio, Cal, Young, Emerson, Gilbert, Woo, Kirby, Anderson, Canzone, Montes, Arroyo, Miller, and Naylor are all under 30. They need a manager that they can feel connected to, and Kanzler being just 36 is that guy.
