December, 2020. Jake Tapper says that during Trump's first term, he refused to have some of Trump's people on his show because they lied too much. Tapper said that he couldn't put lies on air. 😂 Tapper claimed that Kayleigh McEnany lies like most people breathe and that she couldn't acknowledge reality. Tapper went on to say that CNN needed to help millions of people see the truth once Trump goes away. Tapper spent 2017 and 2018 spreading the Russia hoax. Tapper was lied to repeatedly by people like Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell who claimed they had seen direct evidence of Russia collusion. Tapper did not stop having them on his show even though they lied continually. Strange, considering Jake said he doesn't book liars.

I have been asked this multiple times over the last two weeks, so let’s discuss it. (It’s long, so buckle up.) I went back and looked at all 24 Pinellas municipalities city by city. Here is my Pinellas worst-case Amendment 3 scenario. Kenneth City is the clearest candidate for an eventual dissolution conversation. So is South Pasadena. Gulfport, which has a strong identity but is still a relatively small full-service city carrying significant fixed costs. Redington Beach, North Redington Beach, and Redington Shores are the most natural consolidation conversation. They are small, close together, and already rely heavily on shared or contracted services. The Belleairs are another natural consolidation conversation. Belleair probably has the resources to remain independent, lots of expensive properties, while Belleair Beach, Belleair Bluffs and tiny Belleair Shore could eventually ask whether four separate governments still make sense when so many services are already shared or contracted. Indian Shores, Indian Rocks Beach, Madeira Beach, St. Pete Beach, and Treasure Island are probably more resilient than most expect. Their populations are small, but their tax bases are not. St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, and Pinellas Park have the scale to remain substantial standalone governments. I also expect Dunedin, Tarpon Springs, Oldsmar, Safety Harbor, and Seminole to survive, but with more sharing, contracting, and regionalization over time. I think that accounts for all 24. Here is where it gets interesting. The Pinellas County Sheriff already provides primary law enforcement under contract to 13 municipalities. But outsourcing is not a free escape hatch. His prices will adjust up on contracted cities to make up for some county cuts. With the county itself is under pressure, other contracts get more expensive too. Cities can outsource police, fire, public works, and other services. They cannot outsource the bill. So for some smaller cities, the progression may look like this: Higher fees and assessments → more expensive service contracts → outsourced police → regionalized fire → shared public works → smaller staffs → eventually one uncomfortable question: If someone else provides our police, fire, and most major services, why are we maintaining a separate city government? My worst case is not necessarily that Pinellas loses nine city charters. It is that ten years from now many of the same names are still on the map, but perhaps only 15 to 18 are operating as genuinely independent municipal governments. The rest increasingly look like elected officials managing contracts with somebody else. People will start asking why. That is the real issue. What is a minimally viable city? At what point is a municipality too small, too financially constrained, or too dependent on other governments to justify maintaining an entirely separate government? Today that sounds theoretical. Pinellas is the poster child for where Florida finds out.

The “primary White House TV pool” is a completely made-up thing dressed up to look official. It is basically a group of self-important, so-called media organizations that, over time, appointed themselves “primary” and now expect everyone else to accept that they are entitled to some permanent special status above everyone else. The whole thing is a racket made to look like an official institution. Why does anyone still buy into this crap? Anyone with a camera can provide this footage. The White House itself could provide it. Any other organization could provide it. There is nothing inherently special about this self-appointed group, except that they have spent years telling everyone there is.
