Why study religion? We love to explore belief systems, and how people create meaning for themselves. This helps us develop our own views: Know Yourself!

3rd Form philosophers found out about the metaphor of Plato's cave today. Tejas was surprised that Plato thought it took "bravery or courage" to become a philosopher. But I said I thought Plato was right - to be a philosopher means that you can't just go along with the crowd.

Kant would approve of this reasoning:
If every Traitor outed themselves as a Traitor at the roundtable while under suspicion there literally wouldn’t be a show. That’s why people don’t like what James A did and that’s totally fair 🤷 #TheCelebrityTraitors #CelebrityTraitors

For female teachers of a certain age ... By Stir Up Sunday on 22 November we're far too frazzled to focus on baking the family Christmas cake. Instead I observe St Nigel (of Slater's) Day - a quiet afternoon at the end of half term:

As someone who lost 48 Word documents for GCSE RS and is now having to gradually reformat the PDF's I endorse this message:
We don’t need AI, what we need is the ability to turn a PDF back into a word doc without the formatting looking like it survived a plane crash.

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

Wow - quite an intense 3rd Form Philosophy meeting this lunchtime. Discussing examples of ad hominem and straw man arguments in UK politics. "That was good." "We learned a lot." And up from 6 to 11 pupils. Back for more after half term - maybe a bit lighter - on Plato's cave.

Was bored with work, wanted to do something rewarding, I volunteer a few hours once a month for a charity. It's amazing. A boring Fess, but it is rewarding. Just do something good for someone, it will make you and more importantly someone else feel better. Do it, please.

Would more people support the death penalty if it had a utilitarian outcome?

I'll be asking pupils studying Morality and Justice what they think of this policy. From what they've learned so far about the UK prison system I imagine they'll have a lot of questions. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ck9q…

Strange day yesterday: leading advocate of assisted suicide dies peacefully surrounded by her family while in the US we find that lethal drugs are not necessarily effective and can lead to a painful non-death, possibly involving brain damage.

'God' / 'G_d' in a monotheistic context is playing the role of a proper name therefore it begins with an upper case 'G' - Judaism, Christianity, Islam. A 'god with a lower case 'g' is one of many - such as in Roman, Greek, Pagan or Viking religion. (Hinduism can include both!)
What's the word/grammar hill you are absolutely dying on?

Below is the memorial honoring Lewis. Tolkien's memorial will be a bit different, and will be inlaid vertically within a stone pillar at Westminster Abbey, rising about 2.5 meters, featuring the imagery of a tree in a forest as its central theme.
Next year, a memorial honoring J.R.R. Tolkien, designed by Stephen Broadbent, will be installed in Westminster Abbey in Poets’ Corner near the one honoring C.S. Lewis. It will include a piece of Tolkien's favorite tree, the iconic black pine of Oxford that came down in 2014.

GCSE Last Days of Jesus' Life Was telling 5th Form that Pontius Pilate is actually a Christian saint. Vinnie wanted to know what Pilate was the patron saint of. Turns out it's political discourse. 🙄

Only Connect last night - did you get the sequence at clue 2? (Smugly) I did! However I did not know that the hymn 'Lord of the Dance' by Sydney Carter was partly inspired by an image of Shiva as Nataraja. Every day's a school day!
