"While [Joe] Gibbs brought the "Counter Trey" into the public consciousness, he was far from the first coach to run the play.
According to Washington Running Backs coach Don Breaux, Gibbs and Offensive Line Coach Joe Bugel uncovered the beauty of the Counter Trey Scheme while watching film of Tom Osborne’s Nebraska teams of the 1970’s.
"Really, we got the play from Nebraska," said Breaux. "They were one of the first teams to really rip people with it."
