Looking forward to a week in Germany at #LBBB2022 learning about all of the exciting science happening on our second brain :)
On Today’s #LBBB2022 Participant Highlights ✨ we have Sarah Najjar from @nyuniversity & Ryan Hamnett from @StanfordUniver can’t wait to hear all about visceral nociception & glutamatergic interneurons! @anms @SarahANajjar @Ryxicon

We’re excited to share our latest preprint “Anatomical and functional maturation of the mid-gestation human intestine”! We collaborated with @NeoPascaLab to assess the enteric nervous system and gastrointestinal motility develop during the 2nd trimester. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

It's Spring, and you know what that means: leaf blower season for Americans!

Yesterday a sketchy guy came up to me in the street and asked if I "dealt in black market goods". I assumed he meant drugs but now I'm wondering if he was after some ivory or a pangolin.

Do I look like someone who might be selling pangolins?
These proposals become more incoherent the longer I look at them, and it's only been a day so far. Here's a thread of the problems and questions as I see them.

"badger persecution is still practiced in north Wales". What do the Welsh have against badgers?!

Complete story or mechanism are arbitrary goalposts. A mechanism in a paper is never the full picture, just one contributing factor. Better to get observations out after 2 years so that other researchers can use it than spend another 2 trying to "complete" the story
Another example today of why rapid communication of key results, before a “complete story” or “mechanism” has been identified, is a bazillion times better for the advance of knowledge. It allows other scientists to better address their own work and to assist at finding answers.

That's what's better for advancing knowledge anyway. Getting published and advancing one's career are different matters

Just posted a new preprint! We studied the enteric nervous system (ENS) - the neurons that sit in your gut and control digestion. We focused on an often-underappreciated feature of the ENS – its macro-scale organization, and how this differs between regions of the intestines. 1/5

Filling in medical history for my optometrist. Wh-why do they want to know if I play the piano? And is "social" the name of some new drug that I'm not cool enough to know about?

That feeling when you get scooped by a paper from 1931 😩. If only I'd been born 91 years earlier

My paper on VPAC2 cells regulating circadian behaviour is now out! Very interesting to see what happens to SCN slice activity and animal behaviour when you start splitting up the master #circadian pacemaker based on cell type. jneurosci.org/content/early/…

Particularly enjoy some of these traces and actograms when BMAL1 is KO'd in VPAC2 cells
