Mafourteen Walling These terraced walls were constructed by illegal immigrants from neighbouring Mozambique, commonly referred to as “Mafourteen”, who were caught passing through the Kruger National Park to look for jobs. Those caught traversing through Kruger National Park were forced to build the Punda Maria stone wall terraces. The immigrants were freed after fourteen days of constructing these terraces to buy their freedom. The construction of these terraces was aimed to promote sustainable land management practices. Such structures testify to the methods and practices used by indigenous Mozambicans from prehistory to organise their living and working space by optimising local natural and human resources. #KNP100 #Kruger100 #Next100 #KrugerCentenary #DidYouKnow #OurHeritageOurFuture
