We're also taking a look back at where their journeys began with photos from early in their careers alongside photos from today! In Her Own Words: "My passion for education was sparked by my parents, who were both educators and showed me the impact a dedicated teacher can have on a child’s life. Watching their commitment to helping students learn, grow, and succeed inspired me to pursue a career in education. As a principal, that passion remains strong because I have the opportunity to positively impact both students and educators and help create an environment where everyone can thrive." Our National Principals Month spotlights continue with Ginny Medina-Hamilton, Administrator of the Satellite Center! 🏫 As we celebrate this month's 7 Mindsets theme, Passion First, we're highlighting what inspired our principals to pursue education and what continues to motivate them today. We're also taking a look back at where their journeys began with photos from early in their careers alongside photos from today! In Her Own Words: "In 2nd grade, I joined the Children’s Choir under the direction of Mrs. Susan Burns. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized the level of repertoire that we were performing and the expectation of professionalism that she instilled in each of us. Each member of our ensemble had a crucial role - regardless of age or experience - in the administration of the choir as well as in performance. We were section leaders, navigators, librarians, wardrobe managers, luggage handlers, room managers, etc. Everything was student led. This high level of engagement and agency, as well as the leadership opportunities and skills, are what inspired me to do the same for others. I have taught several subjects in a variety of departments over my 30 years in education, but my mainstay has always been music. For me, school should be where students can explore interests in a safe learning environment that allows them to fully experience content that makes them feel confident and fulfilled. Music did that for me, and I hope for many of my students. As I always tell teachers, “We are teaching students to do what we do, so they don’t need us anymore.” This means we focus not just on content, but independence, leadership, collaboration, and agency. Just like Mrs. Burns did for me, I want to do that for our students. Being at the Satellite Center gives me the unique honor of providing these opportunities for students and staff. I hope that in exploring their interests, our team members (students) leave the Satellite Center strong, confident, knowledgeable of their strengths, and ready to face the world ahead." Join us in celebrating Ms. Medina-Hamilton and the positive impact she makes at the Satellite Center! 👏 #YouAndIWeAreSCPPS #PassionFirst #YouBelongHere📍

Our National Principals Month spotlights continue with Aimie Heiden, Principal of Lakewood Elementary School! 🏫 As we celebrate this month's 7 Mindsets theme, Passion First, we're highlighting what inspired our principals to pursue education and what continues to motivate them today. We're also taking a look back at where their journeys began with photos from early in their careers alongside photos from today! In Her Own Words: "My 2nd-grade teacher, Ms. Rivero, was the spark that ignited my passion for education. She was deeply compassionate, made genuine personal connections with each of us, and served as our biggest cheerleader—especially when we struggled. Her belief in me at such a young age set my path in stone; the thought of pursuing any other profession truly never crossed my mind. Today, as a principal, the memory of Ms. Rivero and the way she made me feel about school keeps my passion alive. She showed me the profound impact an educator can have, and I bring that standard to my school every single day. My goal is to ensure that every student who enters our building feels safe, supported, and loved—both academically and socially—so they can discover their own potential just as I did." Join us in celebrating Ms. Heiden and the positive impact she makes on the Lakewood Elementary School community! 👏 #YouAndIWeAreSCPPS #PassionFirst #YouBelongHere📍
