The Port of Charleston plays a strategic role for carriers that need efficient access to inland U.S. markets. The Charleston gateway continues to grow in importance for Hapag-Lloyd, with enhanced connectivity to Greer and Huntsville as one of the key drivers.
Thank you to Hapag-Loyd (America) Senior Vice President Pedro Silva for giving his market perspective this morning at the South Carolina International Trade Conference!
Charleston to Greer is the single largest lane for intermodal international in Norfolk Southern's network, with the railroad serving 200,000 loads a year between SC Ports' inland port and marine terminals.
Thank you to the Norfolk Southern team for joining us at the SC International Trade Conference today, and CEO Mark George for sharing his perspective with attendees. SC Ports is proud of the success we've had together and see more opportunities ahead!

🌅🚢Golden hour view of the deepest draft vessel to call the Port of Charleston.🚢🌅
SC Ports welcomed the deepest draft vessel to ever call the Port of Charleston on Wednesday with arrival of the @MSCCargo Namibia.
The Namibia arrived as a specific draft first-in from Rotterdam and boasts a 50 foot/15.25 meter deep draft. Charleston’s 52-foot harbor makes it an ideal stop for the largest vessels calling the East Coast, seamlessly handling heavy exports.
Special shout out and thank you to Ian Kilpatrick with @MoranTug for the harbor shot!
SC Ports leadership recently met with Isuzu North America's parent company at its HQ in Yokohama, Japan, where the group discussed future collaborations.
During the same week, SC Ports supported a key milestone for the company's new US production base, with the first container of equipment moving from the Port of Charleston to Inland Port Greer.
Since 2013, Inland Port Greer has offered importers and exporters reliable, well-established connectivity to key population centers in the Southeast, making it a lower cost, competitive choice for companies with demanding freight.
“SC Ports congratulates Isuzu on this milestone and looks forward to many more successful years as production begins,” SC Ports President and CEO Micah Mallace said. “Inland Port Greer is the gold standard for high volume, short-haul intermodal rail, which is why companies like Isuzu rely on SC Ports’ to support demanding supply chain needs.”
