They bring the woman caught in adultery. The stones are already in their hands. Jesus bends down and writes in the dust with his finger. The same finger that carved the commandments into stone now moves through the dirt we are made of, and he says the sentence that has echoed for two thousand years. Let the one without sin throw first. The stones come down. Oldest to youngest, they leave. Augustine looked at that emptied courtyard and said only two were left standing there. Misera et misericordia. Misery, and Mercy itself. And then Mercy says two things to her. 1. Neither do I condemn you. 2. Go and sin no more. We have divided the entire church between those two sentences. One side memorizes the first, forgets the second, and calls it love. The other side memorizes the second, forgets the first, and calls it truth. Both are quoting Jesus. Neither is following him. He said both. In the same breath, to the same woman, in the same moment of her worst humiliation. Radical compassion and radical moral seriousness, with no seam between them, because in him there is no seam. Notice also the order. The mercy came first. She did not clean herself up on the road to him. Nobody does. The forgiveness arrived before the reform, and it was the forgiveness that made the reform possible. Immorality is not a private preference with no downstream effects. It carries consequences for your soul, for your family, and for the society that has to absorb the wreckage. Break enough families and you do not get a freer civilization. You get no civilization. That is not a slogan. It is the observable arc of every people who tried it. And condemnation is not holiness. It is the cheapest imitation of holiness on the market, and it drives more people from God than the sins it denounces. Both extremes are easy. The fundamentalist path is easy, because it removes the people. The path of unlimited permission is easy, because it removes the standard. Each one lets you off the hook by amputating half the gospel. The fusion is hard. Holding the full weight of moral truth in one hand and the full weight of compassion in the other, refusing to set either down, refusing to let go of either one no matter how your arms burn, is the most difficult thing a believer is ever asked to do. but that is what Christ asks of you

Meteorology is a very niche field, but as it turns out, there is much more you can do with it than traditional jobs like TV or the NWS. And I actually think there will be even more opportunities opening up especially in private sector Credit to Jan Null for compiling the stats.

Unlimited Arby’s Beef and Cheddars. That’s what I enjoyed as a college student. No, I didn’t work for Arby’s. I just worked Arby’s. There was one across the street from the Costco where I sold cell phones. One day, I bought lunch and noticed a survey at the bottom of my receipt: Free Arby’s Beef and Cheddar for your feedback. I was a broke college kid, so naturally, I called and completed the survey. The next day, I went back, ordered a Beef and Cheddar and an ice water, and handed over my receipt with the survey code. The kid at the register rang up my free sandwich, then handed me a new receipt. I found out later that they normally didn’t generate a receipt for a free sandwich. But because I ordered an ice water, they had to enter the transaction to track the cup in their inventory. And at the bottom of that receipt? The same offer for a free Beef and Cheddar. So I filled out the survey. Got another code. Returned the next day for another free Beef and Cheddar and an ice water. And received another receipt. I did it again. And again. Dozens and dozens of times. Did they notice? Yes. Did they care? Also yes. They freaking loved me. Thanks to my daily five-star reviews, they became the number-one Arby’s in the region on the company’s internal customer-satisfaction rankings. The manager shook my hand every time they saw me come in. I had nicknames. The Beef and Cheddar Guy. Mr. Five Stars. Water Boy. Secret Sauce. Sometimes they even gave me free fries and a drink to go with my free Beef and Cheddar. I was a hero. When I graduated and moved back to Washington with my wife, I left my unlimited supply of Beef and Cheddars behind. I never said goodbye. And I never redeemed my final receipt.

A little silver-haired lady calls her neighbor and says, “Please come over and help me. I have a jigsaw puzzle, and I can’t figure out how to get started.” Her neighbor asks, “What’s it supposed to be when it’s finished?” “According to the picture on the box,” she replies, “it’s a rooster.” The neighbor decides to help. He comes over, and she shows him the puzzle pieces spread all over the kitchen table. He studies the pieces for a moment, looks at the box, then back at the table. Finally, he smiles, gently takes her hand, and says, “First of all, no matter what we do, we’re never going to turn these pieces into a rooster. “Second, let’s make ourselves a nice cup of tea… “…and then we’ll put all the Corn Flakes back in the box.”

🚨 SEN. TED CRUZ: Does the Muslim Brotherhood partner with the Democratic Socialists of America? WITNESS: Yes. CRUZ: Is this alliance between the Muslim Brotherhood and DSA based on a shared hatred of America, Israel, Western Civilization writ large, capitalism and democracy? WITNESS: I'd go further to say it's united around a revolutionary objective of the overthrow of the US Constitution! TERRIFYING. DSA must be demolished this November!

Being a diabetic sucks, but the great thing about being a diabetic is seeing the goodness in strangers willing and wanting to help when my blood sugar is low. I’m constantly reminded of the good. In the end, we’re all brothers and sisters, children of the same God.

ok this might be the most aggressively american startup i’ve ever seen 🇺🇸 > they’re trying to build nuclear reactors 100x faster than the nuclear industry ever has > the founder isaiah taylor grew up on food stamps + dropped out of high school at 16 > his great-grandfather literally worked on the manhattan project > generations later isaiah built a working nuclear reactor before turning 28 and named it “ward” after him > the pentagon used 3 military c-17s to airlift the reactor 700 miles from california to utah in a first-of-its-kind mission > the company culture is hardcore americana > they hold bible studies, offer raw milk, love fast cars + have a cigar lounge > plus 4 gigantic patriotic paintings of columbus discovering america, the pilgrims arriving on the mayflower, the signing of the declaration + the constitutional convention > they sued the nuclear regulatory commission for slowing them down > valar's end goal is to build the same reactor thousands of times across nuclear “gigasites” to make energy 10x cheaper > then they'll use that energy to pull carbon out of thin air and turn it into oil and gas for supreme energy abundance > just raised $1b at a $6b valuation to scale it > if valar pulls it off, isaiah’s family will have helped usher in both of america’s atomic ages yeah this gets my vote for most badass startup of the year
