He might not have fully replicated his 2025 debut season; but Ashley Wills still demonstrated his value to the 1st XI on numerous occasions this year. And, so, ‘Billy Wills’ retains the title of South Holderness C.C. Player of the Year.
3 players qualified for the Young Cricketer of the Year award. However, with 22 wickets @ 31.7, 21 dismissals in the field from 23 appearances and qualification for the 1st XI Batting Cup for the first time, the standout candidate was Adam Ingram.
After his maiden century, Adam Gleeson picked up the Most Improved Player award in 2025. This year, despite limited appearances, a match-winning tail-end partnership with Adam Ingram and Personal Best bowling figures contributed towards the 2026 award going to Joe Bolton.
2025 was an extraordinary year for batting, with 16 centuries shared by six players, including record partnerships of 293 and 213. Repeating that seemed unlikely, and so it proved: 2026 produced just six centuries, scored by only three centurions.
Since its introduction in 2008, the Leading Batsman award has been won by Mike Oliver, Mark Brooks, Adam Towse, Lewis Duell and Rich Ingram (six times). However, since 2018, the trophy has been the sole property of Luke Ingram…. And 2026 was no exception.
With 38 wickets @ 21.5 and best figures of 6 for 46, Ashley Wills retained the Leading Bowler award.
Another trophy Ashley Wills picked up last year was the ‘Ian Mendham Cup’ for the 1st XI Players’ Player. This year, though, Luke Ingram was the choice of his teammates.
With two players still to vote, the ‘Ian Mendham Cup’ for the An XI Players’ Player award was nip & tuck. In the end, though, it was the skipper, Ryan Oliver who was honoured by his teammates.
NINE players qualified for this season’s 1st XI Batting Cup, but there’s only been one winner since 2021! 🏆 Ashley Wills finished 2nd again with 760 runs @ 40, but Luke Ingram’s 1,143 @ 57.2, including a PB 144*, earns him a SIXTH consecutive title! 👏
In an excellent debut season for the club, Ashley Wills also picked up the 1st XI Bowling Cup in 2025. As with the 1st XI Fielding Cup, though, he was the bridesmaid this year, with Luke Riley’s 29 wickets @ 19.8 being the best of the four qualifiers.
With 21 dismissals, Ashley Wills romped to the 1st XI Fielding Cup last season. This year, though, Wills had to settle for the runner-up spot; because miles out in front with 21 (from 23 appearances), it was Adam Ingram’s turn to run away with the trophy.
🏆 FIVE players kept wicket this year, but with last year’s winner Jack Harrison unavailable, it came down to Jamie Walkley and Ryan Oliver. JAAAAAY took 9 dismissals in 12 games, but Oliver’s 11 in 14, at 4.1 byes per game (no leg-side wides!), clinched the Keepers’ Cup! 🧤
Thanks to a 150 at Beverley, Matthew McIvor was the deserved winner of last year’s An XI Batting Cup. This year, coming up just 3 runs shy of 500 (@ 41.4), a very good season saw Ryan Oliver’s name etched on to the trophy.
A 5-for is a bowler’s equivalent of a century! 🏏 Yet, unlike a centurion, there’s no applause or celebration. We think that’s wrong! So, we celebrated this season’s 5-wicket hauls, especially after no 1st XI bowler managed one in 2025! 👏
After a good debut season, Alex McNair won last season’s An XI Bowling Cup. This year, personal best figures of 5 for 25 contributed greatly towards a final average of 7.3… which was more than enough to ensure Joe Bolton added his name to the An XI Bowling Cup for the first time
On to the team awards….
Danny Cross won the An XI Fielding Cup last year. This year, he lost out by the slimmest of margins having not made as many appearances as the eventual winner, Adam Gleeson.
The next award was also voted for by the committee. Kris Rumble received this award last year. This year, in his first year of being eligible after making good contributions to both the 1sts and 2nds, Richard Rosindale picked up his first Veterans’ Cup.
Thank you to everyone who attended Presentations Evening at Middle Lane Cricket Ground on Friday!🏏
We began with the Special Contribution Award. Last year’s inaugural winner was Alex Head, with this year’s award going to a more-than-worthy recipient, Gareth Barnes!👏🏆
