I am elated to announce that I have accepted an offer for Criminal Pupillage at 5 St Andrew's Hill to commence in April 2026!
This round of applications has been particularly gruelling, so to say this moment feels surreal would be an understatement. We thank God 🙏🏽🥹

“We did it. My name is Abdulrahman Muhammad El-Sayed, and I am so proud and honored to stand here as your senator-elect from the great state of Michigan”
After claiming victory and becoming the first Muslim to be elected into the U.S Senate, Abdul El-Sayed made his speech to his supporters.
“Up until right about now, you might have noticed I always say in sha Allah, or God willing, whenever the outcome of this race was mentioned. But today, tonight, we can turn that in sha Allah into an Alhamdulillah.”
This is for the right-wing ops: that just means “praise be to God.”

I am sitting waiting to log on for a CVP video hearing in a major case, which has been delayed purely because of this serious technical failure by HM Court Service.
This is why the system is in a mess.
Not because of juries, which this government is still set on attacking in some of the most serious cases to come before the court.
If we solved even the basic flaws in the system, like this, the backlog would shrink overnight.
Cloud Video Platform (CVP) is down across large parts of England and Wales since 10am. Many of us today, both as prosecution and defence counsel, can not proceed with trials and other hearings. Our work to clear backlogs is hampered. Please urgently let the CBA know which court has been impacted. On this thread. (DM for which case please to contain sensitive material). With thanks

Be under no illusion: this is a significant victory for everyone who stuck their neck out and defended jury trials, day after day, clause by clause.
But it is not a comprehensive victory.
Magistrates should not be allowed to send people to prison for two years.
Finally on my feet ⚖️
Delighted to have completed my first six months of pupillage and to now be accepting instructions as a Criminal Second Six Pupil at 5 St Andrew’s Hill.
Excited for this next chapter!
🎉We are delighted to announce that Sana Hamid has completed her first six months of pupillage and can now accept appropriate instructions.
A warm welcome from all of us at @5SAHLaw

I can’t believe ‘here’s your prison sentence, you will serve half, but your co-defendant who got a bit longer for something a bit worse will do two-thirds, but one of you can go home early on curfew and that one will now do a third and the other a half’ hasn’t worked out for us.
