DEMOCRATS WIN SENATE POPULAR VOTE ACROSS FORMER CONFEDERATE STATES
Democrats won the combined Senate popular vote across ten former Confederate states, securing 20,782,908 votes (53.74%) to Republicans' 17,888,197 (46.26%)—a margin of nearly 2.9 million votes.
The result is a major victory for Democrats in a region Republicans have dominated for decades. High Black voter turnout helped fuel the result, carrying particular historical significance in states where Black Americans were once denied the right to vote.
Democrats broke decades-long losing streaks in Texas and South Carolina. James Talarico became the first Democrat elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas since Lloyd Bentsen in 1988, while Annie Andrews delivered South Carolina's first Democratic Senate victory since 1998.

please god, we need a senate seat in tennessee
NEW: Republican sources in Tennessee tell me President Trump is “encouraging” Governor-elect Marsha Blackburn to appoint Pete Hegseth to her U.S. Senate seat.
Blackburn could resign imminently.
That would let outgoing Governor Bill Lee name Hegseth quickly and give Trump time to get a new Pentagon chief confirmed during the lame-duck session.
We need consistency for @nasa.
In fact I’d go so far as to say like @FBI that @NASAAdmin should be a 9 year appointment that’s nonpartisan and entirely merit based on best leadership for the role.
New Congress to examine NASA budgets and programs spacenews.com/new-congress-t…
@rookisaacman I’m curious on your thoughts about this as an idea for making NASA’s longer term planning robust to he short term fluctuations of government that have delayed and belabored past agency efforts @NASAAdmin

Governor Hinojosa, please seriously revive the Dallas to Houston bullet train project.
Per Axios: With Democrats winning trifectas in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Nevada, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact now has 283 potential electoral votes, putting it above the 270 needed to take effect.

New York State just authorized a land value tax that could generate billions of dollars for new transit.
For the @NiskanenCenter, @aarmlovi and I wrote about how the renewal of § 119-r in the FY27 budget could unlock a virtuous cycle of infrastructure delivery in NYC.

The crypto industry specifically deciding to make the Democratic Party their enemy for the last two years won’t be forgotten on the Hill. They should expect their policy requests to be DoA for a long time. This is the danger of throwing your weight almost entirely to one party

“did you see this twee—“ let me stop you there. I have seen every tweet. if it is posted I have read it. I am refreshing and I am reading and I am refreshing and I am going to do this for nineteen hours straight because if I miss something it will have a direct electoral effect

This might be the first time that the federal govt is trying to nullify federal law and a state is trying to enforce federal law
Absolutely incredible stuff: NJ Governor Mikie Sherrill just sent a letter to Jersey's port operators and businesses, threatening them with severe penalties if they unload illegally imported Russian oil.
"These actions are illegal, in part, because Vladimir Putin continues to engage in an illegal war of aggression against Ukraine. See United Nations Charter, Ch. 1, Art. 2, Par. 4. Further, the U.S. is currently engaged in hostilities with Iran, whose military is responsible for the killing of 23 servicemembers and wounding dozens of others. In purchasing oil from Russia, a known supplier and financial supporter of Iran, Donald Trump is providing funding for a country that is engaged in hostilities with America, up to and including killing American soldiers."

One of my most insane ideas which feels far less wild in 2026 is that the army core of engineers should build a US high speed rail network.

Voters rewarded @RepBillFoster's discussion of land value taxes with a +33 mandate - is this the future of Democratic politics?
LVT endorsement from @RepBillFoster: "One way to encourage [housing density] is with a land value tax... We could structure the federal tax code to encourage a land value-based tax"
