“While COVID-19 continues to pose a serious risk to vulnerable populations … testing for cvd no longer recommended 4 symptomatic healthcare staff working in clinical areas caring for profoundly immunocompromised patients” WTAF 😳 Unsafest place for those at risk is healthcare
Holy flipping cow. Symptomatic NHS staff *looking after immunocompromised patients* no longer need to test for Covid. Absolutely astonishing. This will kill patients. Beyond horrifying.

This is how you bury an ongoing pandemic Australia did something similar with excess deaths Creating their new normal by sweeping the old normal under the rug it doesn’t matter how many infected, disabled or dead as long as the numbers are reassuring and memories are faded
The CDC raised its benchmark for levels of the Covid virus in wastewater, adjusting a key metric for assessing the disease’s transmission. As a result, officials may now classify a level that once counted as high transmission as moderate instead. nbcnews.com/data-graphics/cd…

I don’t agree at all w- new narrowed eligibility 4 free cvd vaccines But I know Australians relieved to see this advice from ATAGI “People who are not eligible 4 funded Cvd vaccine may choose to purchase the vaccine privately” (Now approve Nuvaxavoid) health.gov.au/sites/default/…

Research on why acute cvd fully securitized but not LC, despite pot ⬆️ long-term socioeconomic burden Due to actor framing/audience uptake; visibility of harm; ‘body count bias’ privileges mortality over morbidity; disincentives ⬇️ attention to chronic crises Link to study ⬇️

LC’s slow trajectory, lack of spectacle & stigmatized/marginalized pops relegate it to technocratic risk mgt Structurally ill-equipped to respond to slow-onset, disabling threats, vulnerable to gradual erosion rather than acute, lethal shock link.springer.com/article/10…

This is exceedingly embarrassing in 2026 🤦‍♀️ “Park Ridge Achievement Academy classes will be canceled Friday due to a rise in Cvd cases. Cancellation to allow for additional cleaning & disinfecting at the campus” IT’S IN THE AIR FFS
School in Baker, LA closes due to rising COVID cases. Responds by disinfecting surfaces. COVID is airborne. Clean air is needed. Too few schools know this yet. We need more voices explaining it, teaching it in schools. #CleanAir yahoo.com/news/us/articles/c…

“b/c of Aus strict approach that we had one of strongest pop survival rates US Death Rate ≈3.7x Aust’s, Serbia’s DR ≈2.7x If we’d taken US looser approach, we’d have lost 90k not 25k & that was tragic enough. We did it our way & 65k alive now who otherwise prob wouldn’t be”

“It seems clear that SARS-CoV-2’s multi-layered immune evasion provides minimal protection against influenza. Flu appears to protect against Covid-19 but Covid-19 may do the opposite. If that asymmetry holds at pop’n scale, there is a sig PH implication” johnsnowproject.org/primers/…

Approx 18 mths ago I entered a Vic ED which had a box of surgicals 😷 in foyer, no signage or advice Over many hours, pleasantly surprised to see a consistent 60% of those in waiting room voluntarily masked up (also big industrial HEPAs) If you provide, some wear & all benefit
Outside a Sydney emergency department this week. Perhaps the penny has dropped that staff keep falling ill and going off sick, and mitigation is possible. Surprising % of patients and staff complying, too.

Honestly not sure whether it’s good luck or good management that these Portland residents are wearing respirators & gloves (note goggles also advised by ACDC) Govt needs to provide specific advice - not ambiguous “protective equipment” & provide PPE too abc.net.au/news/2026-08-19/f…

Infectious passion but no infectious disease transmission 🙌 🏅😷
📹 Boxall cam of THAT epic win. On the final night of 2026 Pan Pacs, Lani Pallister disrupted Katie Ledecky’s decade-long dominance of the women’s 800m freestyle in front of an American home crowd. 💥💪🐬 Two mighty competitors. One epic race to remember.

Another example of Australian elite swimming coaches understanding the competitive advantage of protecting their athletes from airborne infectious diseases It’s a consistent medical strategy that they’ve been committed to for years now and Aust performances are brilliant 🥇
Lani Pallister ran to the stands to hug coach Dean Boxall after winning the 800 free and becoming the first woman ever to beat Katie Ledecky in that race at an international meet
