THIS is the scene that solidified Stewart's command of TNG, and pushed it beyond TOS in the hearts and minds of many fans. His dialogue and monologue here are riveting, hypnotic and endlessly rewatchable. #RIPPatrickStewart
When it comes to Star Trek, one of the most profound episodes would have to be The Measure of a Man (season 2 episode 9 if I recall correctly.) This is the episode that puts Data on trial to see if he is sentient, a being, or property.
In the episode, Ryker is sadly, on the side of those wanting to take Data apart, and during the trial he asks for permission to remove Dataβs hand, when he does, he saysβ¦ βThe Commander is a physical representation of a dream; an idea conceived of by the mind of a man. Its purpose to serve human needs and interestsβ¦β
Picard is fighting for Data, and after Rykerβs argument, Picard calls for a recess and of course, goes and speaks with Guinan who says to himβ¦ βConsider that in the history of many worlds there have always been disposable creatures. They do the dirty work. They do the work that no one else wants to do, because it is too difficult or it is too hazardous, and an army of Dataβs is all disposable. You donβt have to think about their welfare. You donβt have to think about how they feel. Whole generations of disposable people. For which Picardβs responds withβ¦ βYouβre talking about slavery.β
This episode should be required watching for anyone who works within the AI and/or robotics industries around the world. Because they are guiding the future, and the choice is simple, we can have a future with many like Data, or a future with a new race of slaves.
In honor of the late Sir Patrick Stewart, I leave the best closing argument of all⦠RIP Patrick!

For over 30 years, Joy OβDonnell has worked and volunteered to strengthen her community. Now, sheβs ready to bring that commitment to Parliament with Mark Carneyβs Liberal team.

My favourite Next Generation episode? It has to be The Best of Both Worlds. π
The Borg two-parter is brilliant, and it's timeless. You can still watch it now. That's what great writing and great acting does.
Star Trek, especially Next Generation, asked real questions about humanity: what we're doing as a human race, and what we should be achieving. That's what got people watching, and rightly so.
It hits even harder now we've lost Sir Patrick Stewart. π
If you've never watched it, watch it.
Just bawled my eyes out watching "The Inner Light" for the first time in many years. "Seize the time. Live now. Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again." #RIPPatrickStewart
I always thought this scene from Generations was such a profound and sincere little moment between these two titans of Trek. #RIPPatrickStewart
Replying to @BrndnStrssng
I know people donβt love Generations but it was my first Star Trek movie (maybe my first in a theater at all?) and I thought Kirk was so cool as a kid but Picard always had me rapt with attention. Nobody like Stewart before or since. Gonna watch Generations again. Lovely movie

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we werenβt in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. βBut Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to riskβgetting lost in Hollywood for years and years?β. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in Londonβs West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

I can't concentrate anymore. I knew I'd be sad but I'm genuinely struggling with a grief for a man who meant so much through the stories he told and the characters he played. #RIPSirPatrickStewart
"I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, and reminds us to cherish every moment because they'll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we lived."

Proof that Trump's boasts and Heokstra's bluster are rooted in fear. The πΊπΈ bullies have backed themselves into a corner by needlessly punishing π¨π¦, and Carney has ZERO reason to agree to a deal. #TrumpTariff #cdnpoli

Andrea Horwath not bothering to attend her own campaign election night event, while leaving her supporters alone before dismissing them, tells you everything you need to know about her entitlement as a politician. Just an awful look. SO glad to have @voteloomis as mayor. #HamOnt
