He is one of Korea's best dancers and the "dance mentor" of SEVENTEEN, blending fluid contemporary lines with acrobatics, and powerful breaking elements, earning praise from peers like EXO’s Lay for performances such as his solo “Falling Down.” His break dancing is on another level, after training in Wushu martial arts from the age of four and after years of competitive b-boying in China, where his crew reached the top 8 at the 6th Shanghai World Dance Competition. After that, he became known as THE8!! He's also a great singer and an amazing All Round entertainer, and is one of the most prolific SEVENTEEN members in songwriting, credited on over 28 songs by KOMCA with over 60 credits in total! As part of SEVENTEEN’s Performance Team with Hoshi, Jun, and Dino, he helps shape the group’s stages and has co-choreographed several SEVENTEEN hits, including elements in "Don't Wanna Cry" and "HOT," contributing to the group's "self-producing idol" legacy. He was praised for creating the ending sequence of “HOME; RUN” at the choreographer’s request, adding his distinctive flair. He has served as a dance mentor on Youth With You, and contributed to unique art projects under “THE 8 Contemporary ART.” SEVENTEEN has filled stadiums around the world with high-energy, tightly synchronized stages, and The8’s sharp dance moves often stand out within them. He has played a meaningful part in the group’s international success, from their 2024 Glastonbury set on the Pyramid Stage, becoming the 1st K-pop act on the main stage, and their triple-million-seller album '17 IS RIGHT HERE'. THE8 has also released several solo singles and is also a very successful Solo Artist in his own right, famous for his 2024 EP 'Stardust'. He shines individually through his artistry, especially in China-focused projects! During China's COVID restrictions (2022–2023), The8 and Jun focused on solo/C-pop activities, returning for full-group comebacks like 'FML' (2023), which won Album of the Year at the Circle Chart Music Awards! THE8 was born in Haicheng, Liaoning, China, and attended Beijing Contemporary Music Academy. After ranking in the Top 8 of the 6th Shanghai World Dance Competition, he became THE8 and on May 9, 2015, he debuted as a member of Seventeen with their first EP, '17 Carat'. In 2017, he took part in the TV show 'Real Class - Elementary School' and in 2018, he starred in the Chinese reality television show 'Chao Yin Zhan Ji'. In 2019, THE8 made his official solo debut as one of the 2 dance mentors in the hit Chinese survival show 'Youth With You', guiding trainees and boosting his reputation as a dance authority. On June 9, 2019, he made his impressive solo debut with the single "Dreams Come True" and on May 8, 2020, he released his 2nd single, "Falling Down". On April 13, 2021, THE8 released his 3rd single "Side by Side" in both Chinese and Korean. On May 4, 2021, he released a single called "Mom's Missed Call" along with bandmate Jun. On 18 March 2022, The8 released his 4th Chinese single "Hai Cheng", a beautiful ballad which showcased his amazing voice. THE8 finally released his debut EP 'STARDUST' in December 2024, marking a milestone in his career as a singer-songwriter and Producer. Prior to this, his solo output was mostly digital singles in Chinese, but STARDUST showcased his evolution with self-produced tracks blending ethereal pop, R&B, and electronic elements. This Chinese-language EP features three songs, all co-written and co-composed by The8, emphasizing themes of dreams, introspection, and cosmic journeys. It drew 10 million streams in its first week, and quickly topped charts on platforms like QQ Music garnering praise for its mature sound and visuals. The8 has received awards both as a group member of SEVENTEEN and for his solo work. On the individual/solo side, his Chinese releases have earned major chart-based recognitions. “Star Crossing Night” feat. GALI won categories such as Collaboration Single of the Year and related listener-favorite awards at the 2025 QQ Music/Tencent Music Dianfeng Chart Awards, and he received an Outstanding Artist in His 20s award. Other solo tracks have also appeared in Chinese year-end chart rankings! With the group, he also shares in numerous major awards, including multiple MAMA Awards (Album of the Year and Artist of the Year), Golden Disc Awardsand Billboard Music Awards (Top K-pop Touring Artist)! The8 is a Fashion Icon and Brand Ambassador and a muse for luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Dior! He became a Louis Vuitton House Ambassador in April 2025 after working with the brand before that, attending shows and contributing to music for their menswear presentations. His fashion work aligns with his artistic, movement-focused image and has strengthened his presence as a style figure. The8 is also very much involved in charity. He has consistently used his platform for philanthropy, often focusing on children's welfare, education, and health especially in China, where he serves as an ambassador for the China Charities Aid Foundation. His efforts blend music, dance, and personal advocacy, reflecting his thoughtful persona. While he often collaborates with the group, he also acts as an individual artist, like in 2021, when he donated all copyright proceeds from his single "Mom's Missed Call" with Jun, to the Dandelion Philanthropy Music Project for the Chinese Children’s Charity Association. In 2021, he also donated all proceeds from his Chinese single "Side by Side" to help children in need through the same Dandelion project. It topped QQ Music charts while channeling earnings into dream-fulfillment initiatives for underprivileged youth, like arts and skill-building workshops. The8 quietly donated art supplies to dance academies in Anshan (his hometown) in 2022, fostering young talents. Beyond music, The8 advocates for cultural exchange and child rights via UNESCO, aligning with his bilingual bridge-building. In 2023–2024, during SEVENTEEN's China hiatus, he promoted local fundraisers on Weibo for disaster relief (e.g., earthquake aid)! The8 with SEVENTEEN made a 1 billion KRW (~$683,000) donation in March 2025 for wildfire relief in South Korea, a $250,000 contribution to UNESCO in August 2025 from a sacai collaboration auction to support the Global Youth Grant Scheme, and a 2026 donation through the Korean National Commission for UNESCO to fund secondary education access for disadvantaged students in Laos under their ongoing Going Together campaign THE8 has grown into one of SEVENTEEN’s sharpest performers, and stands out for his fluid dance style, mixing his b-boying roots with contemporary movement and martial-arts precision and making SEVENTEEN’s stages visually striking. Fans love him for that combination of technical skill and precision on stage, and his thoughtful and playful antics off it! His solo work, visual projects, and fashion presence further elevate his range beyond group performances. THE SKY CELEBRATES MINGHAO #하늘의_색처럼_명호를_축하해 #8xperience_THE8_Day #SEVENTEEN @pledis_17
