Around these tables, community organisers, youth networks, women’s rights groups, researchers and platform representatives worked side by side to make sure that knowledge shapes how #platforms and #regulators respond. This is what meaningful participation looks like.

In workstreams, we defined the specific problems that need solving before Kenya’s 2027 General #Elections and turned them into concrete recommendations, each with a responsible actor and a timeline for before, during and after the #campaign period. #PlatformGovernance

The convening involved grassroots leaders, youth networks, community media, fact-checkers, women's rights organisations, regulators, #electoral institutions and #platforms including Meta, TikTok and Twitter (X) to examine how online harms are experienced at #community level.

We participated in the @UnescoEast, @AmnestyKenya and @FECoMo_Kenya Convening on Platform Governance, Information Integrity and Digital Rights, ten months before Kenya's 2027 General Elections.

Content moderation that doesn't understand Sheng or coded speech will miss hate and incitement to violence. Community-built, regularly updated #lexicons must shape how platforms moderate Kenyan content before 2027. 🎤
