Every day we hold ourselves to the highest standards of animal care, connect our guests with wildlife and inspire them to be good environmental stewards, and work to conserve wild animals and wild places both locally and abroad.

SBA is proud to support wildlife at the @SantaBarbaraZoo as the Premier Foster Feeder for Amelia Earhart. Rescued in 2022 and now living in Santa Barbara, Amelia serves as an ambassador for her species—named after the legendary Amelia Earhart, who once visited SBA in 1937.
The Santa Barbara Zoo is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Nina, the beloved 20-year-old black swan.
She and her male black swan partner, Shadow, have since enjoyed their shared role as the Zoo’s winged welcoming committee for more than 10 years. They have greeted visitors together as the first animals most guests see at the Zoo as they enter our grounds across the Swan Bridge.

#TongueOutTuesday fun fact: Masai giraffe have long, prehensile tongues that are nimble enough to selectively pick the tastiest-looking leaves off of branches. In the wild, this adaptation is particularly useful for avoiding thorns that line their browse buffets.
