Deleted facebook n linkedin recently and realised that these platforms essentially follow the talaq ahsan model. You give notice to end the relationship, followed by a waiting period. If you don’t resume the relationship during this period, it automatically comes to an end.

WoR excerpt in @Article14live! Write a review, invite me for book talks or to speak to your class. My book shows how secular critiques of Gujarat 2002 in Bollywood cinema and the Best Bakery judgments founded modern Hindutva's regimes of legalised violence. @CUP_Law @RanaAnwesha

Not courts, not parliament: the only effective check in Indian democracy is elections. Now that is under attack too. Read @ROKIBUZZAMAN2's ground report on the first election after seats in Assam were gerrymandered to reduce Muslim representation. scroll.in/article/1067465/no…

An old article in the Hong Kong Law Journal, where I showed how marriage redeemed sexual acts that were otherwise considered "unnatural"...in terms of the meaning attributed to the acts, the relevance of consent, and the legal construction of the actors 🎭 academia.edu/24898470/The_Wi…
Noting that 'Marital rape' has not been recognised as an offence in India, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has observed that any sexual intercourse, including unnatural sex by a man with a wife, won't amount to rape as the consent of the wife becomes immaterial in such cases. Read more: t.ly/EFbg2

Thinking of that time I was caught with a box of badamis and Mohammed Hanif’s A Case of Exploding Mangoes in my hand luggage at Bangalore airport 🥭
Pencils, books, laptops, those are the tools of students and what you expect to find on a college campus. But here’s what the NYPD found in Hamilton Hall at Columbia University after we were able to arrest the protestors and agitators for commandeering and barricading themselves inside the building. Gas masks, ear plugs, helmets, goggles, tape, hammers, knives, ropes, and a book on TERRORISM. These are not the tools of students protesting, these are the tools of agitators, of people who were working on something nefarious. Thankfully, your NYPD was able to prevent whatever they were planning and stop them before they could do it. Continue to peacefully and lawfully protest; but know that if you engage in illegal conduct, the NYPD will hold you responsible and hold you accountable—someone has to. @nypdpc @NYPD1stDep @nypd @nypdchiefpatrol @nypdchiefofdept

The kind folks at @queerbeat_media have re-published the article (with a stunning artwork) that had originally appeared on @Verfassungsblog as part of a symposium on Indian constitutionalism in the last decade. All those who’d bookmarked the earlier post can do so again 🐮
How has the gradual collapse of democracy & constitutionalism under the #NarendraModi-led BJP government impacted & influenced #LGBTQ+ life & rights in India? Check out the excerpts from this opinion piece by @SaptMandal (first published on Verfassungsblog) to know. A 🧵 1/n

Modi in 2002 at Becharaji in Gujarat had given a speech asking whether they should fund relief centres which are child producing centres. He hasn't moved even half a millimeter from the bigot he has always been despite all the propaganda claiming otherwise.

The only endorsement I care abt in this absolutely fantastic book 🥘 🥳 @Rohini_Sen
Immensely grateful to Peter Goodrich, @jkpuar, Sunera Thobani and Achin Vanaik for their endorsements. I hope that the book is able to take forward, in a modest way, the scholarly and political commitments in their rich oeuvre. cambridge.org/in/universityp… @RanaAnwesha @qudsiya_Ah
