On #UNDay and every day, the UK’s commitment to the rule of law is unwavering. Professor @DapoAkandeLaw has the legal rigour and independence to serve the @CIJ_ICJ when the world needs it most. The UK is proud to support his election.
81 years ago, the @UN Charter came into force, with international law at its core. The UK believes international law must apply equally and fairly to all. That’s why we back @DapoAkandeLaw for the @CIJ_ICJ: an exceptional, independent lawyer who shares those values.

Nearly 700 women and girls were raped in Haiti in July and August alone. This is shocking and unacceptable. The renewal of the mandate of the Gang Suppression Force and UN Sanctions Regime are essential to restoring stability in Haiti.

Russia has intensified its strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure over the weekend. This is an attack on Ukrainian civilians, plunging them into cold and darkness. The UK strongly supports President Trump's call today for a sustained energy ceasefire to start now. I discussed this with @zelenskyyUa yesterday: Ukraine is ready if Russia stops its attacks. This is the best route to get energy and fuel back into world markets.

Girls must be free to make informed choices about their own bodies - without coercion, discrimination or violence. UK support for @UNFPA is helping millions more women and girls gain autonomy and access to care across 54 countries, including in conflict zones. #DayOfTheGirl
Thérèse left school at 14 to support her family. Before 18, she had experienced two pregnancies. @UNFPA care provided her choice over her future. The UK is a proud UNFPA partner. Last month, we pledged $270m to help over 15 million women and girls each year across 54 countries.
