According to latest World Bank report, India's inequality has registered the sharpest decline in the last 5 years in history. It was already declining faster in the previous 5 years.
A Gini index of 23.5 in 2026 makes India one of the low inequality countries in the world. That's the gap between rich and poor in consumption.
For example, China's inequality is 36, United States 42, Most G7 and G20 countries are in the 40s to 50s.

I have to say this as an Indian
Chinese Army would absolutely pound Turkey and send it back to stone-age.
India has progressed in the last 12 years, but it hasn’t achieved everything. Both blind nationalism and the claim that India has achieved nothing are wrong.
The issue lies in the fact that many people in India do nothing to better our society. Whilst we have people throwing rubbish along our roads, polluting our rivers, ruining our beautiful scenery, breaking the rules of the road and showing absolutely no respect for our country, they complain.
Indians expect this country to have amazing roads, clean cities, world class infrastructure and accountable governments but don’t hold themselves accountable to keeping their environment clean.
No, I am not referring to those who pay their taxes honestly, run businesses, create jobs and do their duty as a citizen. These people do have every right to expect better governance.
From Congress to BJP, governments have had nearly eight decades to address India’s basic challenges. Yet we still struggle with clean air, safe drinking water, proper sanitation, reliable infrastructure and timely justice. India has progressed, but imagine where we could have been had our governments delivered on everything they promised. A nation’s potential means little if decades of governance fail to turn it into reality

BREAKING: Iran has cut off LPG exports to Pakistan after Islamabad's border closure with Iran under US pressure, making Pakistan lose more than half its LPG supply, with the price of a 12 kg cooking gas cylinder now up 56% in just days, from 4,500 to 7,000 rupees, and expected to climb further, per Reuters.
Pakistan imported about 7,000 tonnes a day from Iran. Hundreds of LPG tankers are stranded at the Gabd-Rimdan and Taftan crossings, and the Quetta Chamber of Commerce has told members to stop placing new orders with Iran.
"We did not expect this from our Pakistani friends, and did not expect them to come under the influence of American pressure," said an Iranian MP.
Bessent said he is working with Pakistan and Turkey to cut off Iran's land routes. Sealing Iran off is now cutting household fuel to its neighbours.
