Save Texas History

As we approach America's 250th birthday, the GLO proudly honors and remembers the brave patriots who fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill. The Bunker Hill Monument commemorates this historic battle during the American Revolution and pays tribute to the courageous soldiers who gave everything for our great nation. 🇺🇸

Commissioner Buckingham is pleased to announce the GLO's map book was awarded second place for the Presidio La Bahía Award by the Sons of the Republic of Texas (SRT). "'Texas Takes Shape" features essays on over 100 maps from the GLO Archives, dating back to the sixteenth century, that guide readers on a journey through the evolution of Texas — from colonial frontiers to the Republic to statehood. "This recognition reflects the outstanding work of GLO staff, and I am proud of their dedication to telling the story of Texas through its historic maps.” - Commissioner Buckingham Read more: glo.texas.gov/about-glo/pres…

Give the gift of Texas history this holiday season by purchasing the GLO's 2025 Christmas ornament! This year's ornament features the Yellow Rose Compass found on Commissioner Buckingham’s Alamo Defenders Heritage Map of Texas. The Commissioner's map pays homage to the brave Alamo Defenders and shows the approximate locations of the 245 land grants issued by the Republic and State of Texas to the heirs of these Texas heroes. "When I look at this ornament, I am reminded that the defenders of the Alamo would have been guided by a compass like this one on the path to defend their fledgling nation, much like the Three Wise Men were guided by the North Star to see the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." - Commissioner Buckingham Order your very own ornament and map here: glo.texas.gov/about-glo/pres…
